It's high time I had a way to keep track of these things. Also a note since a lot of them are popping up, make sure that yours conforms with the guidelines below. If you know of another amateur contest around the net, you can pimp it here too. (Such as, a contest run by someone on DA. Just nothing huge like RSoM or something.

Current Contests

Official Art Forum Contests:
Check for stickies :D Also check out the Challenge Yourself Hall of Win for past winners.

Member Art Forum Contests:
(listed by end date)
None going on right now! Why don't you start one up? :D

Outside Contests:
None suggested right now!

Snafu Art Forum Contest Rules

Any one member is allowed to start up a contest at any time, provided they follow these rules:

> Contests MUST have a defined start and end date. "until I get enough entries" or "until a mod locks this" are not acceptable, it has to be a DATE.

> Contests MUST have a specific theme. "Art" is not a theme, nor is "draw whatever". Examples of acceptable themes are "characters from ______" or "art in the style of ______"

> Contests are assumed to be for ART ONLY unless otherwised specified.

> Snafu Art Forum contests must otherwise conform with all other Snafu Forum rules.

> Only one contest per member at a time, please... Running more than one contest at a time is not only annoying, but it spreads your entrants thinner so is bad for you.

:::Contest Guidelines:::

These are things that will help your contest be successful! They're not rules, just things to keep in mind.

> When it comes to contests, more specific themes are actually better than broad themes. If you have a theme that's too broad, it's hard for people to come up with ideas for them.

> I'm not going to sticky member contests because that would be wayyyyy too many stickies. It's your responsibility to generate interest in your contests, but I will list them in this topic as soon as they have one entrant. If they don't yet have entrants, you're still allowed to announce them in this thread.

> If you're having trouble generating interest for your contest, keep in mind that starting a contest while there are already a bunch of other ones up is not good for you. Also keep in mind that people will want to draw what interests *them*, so a videogame art contest here on Snafu makes much more sense than "draw your favourite bridge" or something. Lastly, remember that people like prizes, no matter how small ;)

A few questions, can anyone hold contests? What kinds of prizes are allowed to be offered? And are there any other limits?

Those are the only limitations. You can offer any kind of prize that you want to, I suppose, as long as you're *actually* offering and not just lying about it. Er... I would also say that prizes offered in member contests must also conform with Snafu Art Forum rules and international law.

Could you please be slightly more specific about the prizes? I've been thinking about a contest for a while, but I don't know what you mean by prizes. Thank you!

Prizes can be whatever you want. The most common prize here is "respect", which is a lame prize. They can range from anything like manga you've bought, a rare collectible, but more common (and better/easier) are commissions, money, online subscriptions and gift certificates.

How do I give prizes like that? I apologize for my stupid questions, but I really have no clue about these things.

Um. Well it depends what prize you want to give. Most subscriptions online you can buy for another person, but you have to have paypal or a credit card to pay for it. To give just money, you need paypal. To give commissions, you just need to be able to do art and send it to them either electronically or by mail. Actual prizes, like objects, are sent by mail.

Lets see, I wanna start a contest, The contest is to draw your favorite Manga/Anime character in the coolest cloths you can think of. (no nudes.) Wepons are allowed. And you may have two to three characters (of the same show/Manga) on a page. Please have the show/manga name included in your pic and your name as well! The starting date is Feb. 14th and the ending date is Feb. 25th. Judging will be on the 26th and the winner will be notified before evbody else. The prize will be the first two volumes of Rurouni Kenshin Anime OR a Dragon Ball Z collectable action Figure still in it's packaging. (Character= Trunks). Second place will be the first two volumes of Buso Renkin, and third place will be the first two volumes of Kill me Kiss me. SO whatcha think?

I think you need to start an actual thread with your contest in it . . . but I might be wrong.

No, that's the way to do it. Just start a thread with the contest rules and such, and make sure the contest is within the rules of the first post. Other than that, good luck with the contest ^_^
