Yeah, I'm tired of self-insert bland male leads sucking up all the screen time. But you mostly find that in manga and anime adaptations of manga. Kill La Kill is an Anime first so it has a team of writers and people working on it, not just some hormonal guy with a pen and a fantasy.

My actual goal is to make a manga with realistic characters that people find relatable and like-able ,while still retaining that fantasy element thats just so great about manga.

Most of the reason why you see the same bland character with cardboard cut out humor, and no personality in anime is because thats what's selling, alot of the creative element in anime is gone because everyone is just following someone elses path to get famous (granted I love anime), look at Ladies Vs. Buttlers then Infinite Stratos, its like someone cut out the same anime,(even alot of the characters are similar, especially the boy whos obviously a girl. threw mechs in and made it pg-14.

Yeah, but it's also a self-insert kinda thing. Like the writer is writing his self into the story. It's also the interpretation of who we are meant to project ourself onto. And isn't that just a massive implied insult.

If having nothing but cute or hot girl on the cover and promo art (depending on your opinion of, 'if cartoons can be attractive or not'), only to trick you when you find the MC is the same cookie cutter guy as the rest. It's because it can't stand on it's own.

You know I watch an anime named Shakugan No Shana for the title character "Shana" not generic school boy number 12529 who has an a knack for stumbling into a changing room and finding it anything but stimulating. But the camera is on that guy %75 of the time.

Oh dear god, the changing room. Dont even get me started on that.

I just want an anime where the guy isnt a blockhead, or asexual, and the girl has her own spotlight without what she's doing revolving around the MC.

Hell, I'd even settle for an anime with one of those grabby girls who's always trying to get in the guys pants. provided the guy reacted like an actual guy would, or at least there was some other driving point to the story than the guy trying to /stay/ a virgin

Yeah, the girls are always projected as having some sort of affinity for the MC, it's like they'd die without him. And it seems every other chromosome is drown to him. Be it the usual suspects: Childhood Friend, ADOPTED Sister, Mysterious girls, girl with powers who has to baby sit him and he always takes her for granted, milf teacher, silent cold girl, those fucking yandere (I fucking hate yandere) or the loli tsundere.

It's always the fucking same. Got a favourite one? Well fuck you the girl closest to the front of the cover art is going to (and I use this word loosely) 'get' the guy. After like 20+ volumes of being more dense than a black hole and half/interrupted confessions.

The sad thing is the girls are quite often giving a quite interesting backstory or a in a current dilemma or have problems of their own when they get introduced. But it quickly gets forgotten to make way for more pinning.

I've just started watching kill la kill a few days ago and my thoughts are conflicted. While it is really fun to watch, but having both the main protagonist and main antagonist strip half naked makes it somewhat uncomfortable. The reason I am conflicted is that I am not sure wether they are using it as a joke where both Ryuko is aware of the fact she's half naked the first three episodes and it purposefully distracts every other character (even mako gets nosebleeds), then there's me who doesn't like fanservice being a front-and-center detail.

Thats kind of the point, front and center sexual jokes , and fanservice,   Ryuko vs Gammagori episode was so full of this it reminded me of Panty and Stocking with how blatantly they were refferencing S+M.

The three major recurring forms of humor in this show so far are Fanservice (nudity and sexual references. ) Jokes with cheesy animation on purpose like    when gamagorri was following the guy downstairs    in the first episode, or when mako was levitating up and down in Gamagorri's car , And slapstick humor usually by Mako

There's an anime that does that, but the protagonist turns out to be a pretty awful person.

Try School Days. It's quite average, until the end, which made it worth the trip. Not something you can watch more than twice, though.

And if you want the epitome of all you're talking about to point and laugh at, check out Shuffle.

It was animated shit for me, but I felt better for it. It's sad too, because there is one character that trumps all the others in that miserable show, but it's all dragged down by stupidity and forced melodrama.

That's the only thing I love about that piece of shit School Days. You're supposed to think the main guy's a waste of spunk. The show is actually in on it. The ending is so gratifying since it basically ends the way I want most harem animes to end.

I completely agree.

The only other ending of a harem anime that I enjoy is when the main character actually picks someone, and then commits.

Clannad starts off as a harem, then the MC picks his girl, and boom, second season is of their life together.

Fuck, even Shuffle has the main dude pick a character, and it's so bad that you don't care anymore by the end.

There was this anime I watched quite a while ago that I really want to watch. Caught the first episode of it, but ever since then I could never find it again. The main character looks pretty much like Zack Faire and attends a prestigious school. Whether he was a poor guy who got lucky or is actually someone from a wealthy family escapes me, but I remember he ends up becoming popular with the ladies pretty fast. I REALLY wish I could find it... At first the person that showed it to me got confused and thought he showed me Shuffle, but that wasn't it. So he forgot too and I'm just at a loss.

That could be ANYTHING, hahaha. Gotta be a bit more specific.

Also, I started rewatching Shingeki no Kyojin.    Petra was just thrown from the cart, and Levi gave that guy her patch.    ALL OF MY FEELS.

I haven't caught up on the manga, yet, so I can't really give an opinion on this. But, I've seen mixed feelings.

Originally he planned it to end with Eren   dying after being eaten    or something like that, but it gained popularity fast , he said himself he's been winging it since.

I really wish I could be more specific. The art style was pretty clean and newer, so it's probably something in the last 5-10 years, and I remember one specific scene where one of the popular girls was grinding her foot into the main character's crotch like claiming it as her own or something.

I heard    the original ending had all the main cast die   , then after it gain popularity, he's been milking it.
I think he wanted 40-50 volumes, but because of possible collab with Hiroki Endo, he's shortened it to 20 volumes.
