Hey guys. I want to show you a british-made sci-fi short film I know. It's called Archangel Thunderbird. It has giant-monsters, cheesey special-effects and a bit of lovecraft thrown in.

Ben Affleck is the new Batman. Yep.

Thought it was pretty good
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

I like Ben Affleck, I've yet to see any real complaint about him outside of Daredevil(which had so much else wrong that I don't even notice him) and the fact that he's not Christian Bale.

I don't see a problem with it.

George Clooney was Batman. I don't think Ben Affleck can screw it up.

I saw Mr. Nobody. It's a long film (2.5 hours), and it's a bit of an arthouse movie, but it's an incredibly beautiful film, exploring the nature of choice through the use of alternate realities. It stars the actor from Requiem for a Dream. Mr. Sandman has been playing in my head for an hour now.

Haha, are you implying Clooney is a bad actor, somehow? (not that I'm implying Affleck is one)

Nah, its just I have the hardest time with him being Batman. It just made me laugh every time I saw him as Batman, just didn't seem to fit well.

At least it isn't a proper Batman movie. It's a Superman movie, so it's going to suck, anyway.

Whoever plays Batman doesn't matter, Batman isn't a terribly complicated character to begin with. They should save the money they're going to spend on Affleck and spend it on good writers instead. Also, the new Robocop movie looks like it's going to be PG-13. What's up with that?

Never really saw the original Robocop (just some clips and a clip of a scene in Spanish) but I heard in the original Robocop got brutally murdered, but in this one he gets blown up but a car.

How he died in the original was awesome... and excruciating.

The original Robocop was rated R; It had a lot of violence and senseless killing, it's very 80's.

This one still looks good. A movie doesn't have to be rated R to be a good movie either.

I agree that a movie doesn't have to be rated R to be good, but I believe that 'Robocop' should. The movie is from a different time, when movies were full of ultra-violence, drugs and sex. I get that all that 80's stuff was pretty crappy in hind sight, excess was the point of the 80's after all. Still, the same way you can't take Superman and make him dark and gritty, you can't take Robocop and make him crisp and clean. That 80's excess was the point of movies like 'Robocop', seeing terrible things happen helped you digest other terrible things, like turning a human into a walking murder machine. Nothing in that trailer made me think that turning a wounded cop into a semi-human machine was a good idea. Also, by scaling back on the nastiness, you make the greedy corporation cartoon villains even more cartoony, since there's no visceral imagery to go with such super evil. It's like in 'Elysium', the rich people didn't seem so cartoonishly selfish because Kreuger was there being terrible.

Also, how do you screw up the ED 209; the big bad ass from the original movie doesn't look intimidating at all in the trailer.

A movie should be rated R if it has R rated thematic content. Robocop fits the bill. So does Wolverine.

What happens most of the time is that they take an R rated concept, and neuter it to be PG-13 just so they can get more teens in the theater. So they're handicapping the work just for more money. If it's a PG-13 money from the outset that's not an issue, but lots of movies get cleaned up to be PG-13 just so teens can get in.

So did any of you fools see Insidious 2? It's pretty good but I hate the kid who played the younger version of the dad.

I've heard it's supposed to be good, ya. Hugh Jackman is great in it apparently
