Top 10 Favorite Cartoons

Postby Exodis » Tue Jul 09, 2013 12:53 am

Ahh cartoons: who doesn't love 'em? Cartoons have been with us for decades, from as old as Mickey Mouse to as new as Adventure Time.
List one of your top 10 favorite cartoons of all time.
Don't hurt yourself trying to make the list, it can be a bit frustrating to find out which show you loved should be on the list.

My top 10 cartoons:
1) Samurai Jack
2) Courage The Cowardly Dog
3) KND
4) Danny Phantom
5) PPG
6) Invader Zim
7) Grim Adventure of Billy and Mandy
8) Adventure Time
9) Ed Edd n Eddy
10) Regular Show
There's more, but this was all I can come up with... ahhhh, my head hurts. So much cartoons, so little numbers.

ANIMES DO NOT COUNT!! WHY?

"Japanese Cartoons."

Oh and one other thing, the Japanese tend to look at anime as something for children despite the existence of other anime for teens and adults both young and old.

Why seven anyway. Why not top ten?

So basically this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53724 except with the number 7?

Your dream is to be a game designer, if I recall correctly. Adding a number and rehashing an idea while presenting it with glee, you'll do great.

On a more serious note, cartoons are a too broad subject to make top lists with, unless you're a kid/teen. Some stuff you just can't compare. I love Simpsons and Batman TAS, but how would I decide what to place higher? One's a comedy/social satire/sitcom, the other's a superhero series/comic book adaptation. Batman TAS, if we also count The New Batman Adventures, gave me only 109 episodes of great entertainment (actually less, since 10-15 episodes or so, sucked), while the Simpsons gave me 200+. BUT Simpsons eventually started to suck by default, while Batman TAS ended on a still very solid level. So as you see they're impossible to compare.

And that's not even getting into comparing movies and tv series'. The Secret of Nimh and Young Justice, I love both, but one's about talking animals and is contained in 83 minutes, while the other is about teen superheroes and takes more than 14 hours to watch back to back.

Even when you have the same type of media and the same genre you can't really make a list. Gravity Falls and South Park are both serialized tv sitcoms and are both great (didn't watch the last 2-3 seasons of South Park though), but their demographics are completely different and the shows aim to amuse differently.

So basically, that's why I poked fun at the thread idea. That, plus the fact that I clicked your link and allowed noscript to unblock tinyurl, only to view a really lame image. The message of the pic is lame enough, why would you link an image with the words "Until You Realizes That...".

The problem is for me is I can't think of 10 and most of them would be more recent with maybe Animaniacs and Batman tucked in because they are about the only two to hold up for me.

The leasf you could've done is specify a genre. That is really all this needs.

How would a genre help this? Isn't "cartoons" already a genre?

That's like saying film is a genre. Cartoons and animation are a medium, the problem for cartoons much like comics is that they have been attached too closely to one particular genre.

Re: Top 10 Favorite Cartoons

Postby Tenshi Nova » Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:26 pm

Not sure if it counts. But for me, my favorite cartoons were the toddler cartoons, because during my first burst of imagination I imagined them all in one violent futuristic world. Not my favorites to sit and enjoy, but my favorites to helping my imagination. I was forced to watch them day after day with my baby cousin, so many years ago. Then one day I started imagining all of them 10-20 years older, all with a very generous puberty(if you catch my drift). I believe the basic story was Swiper the Fox one day realized he could still steal things even after people say not to, and he stole nukes, and though the world into a huge shit hole. Dora had infinite weapons in her backpack and Boots was a gorilla. I was 7, it made sense then.

1. Dora the Explorer
2. Blue's Clues
3. Teletubbies
4. Little Bill
5. Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends
6. Little Bear
7. Thomas and Friends
8. Barney and Friends
9. Max and Ruby
10. Go, Diego, Go

I couldn't limit myself to 10 for my favorite to watch cartoons, but everyone else will probably mention them. So I'll just list a random 10 that I haven't seen posted yet, that I think should be mentioned.

1. RUGRATS, My number one and will forever love, even though I hated All Grown Up.
2. Jackie Chan Adventures (mainly because I understood the Cantonese and it was hilarious)
3. Xiaolin Showdown
4. Bionicles (I think this was series of movies)
5. Avatar: The Last Airbender (including the comic continuation)
6. Code Lyoko (you said no anime, this show was aired in France)
7. Totally Spies (don't judge me :x)
8. Wild Thornberries (honestly I didn't like it until the movie where they crossed with Rugrats)
9. Johnny Bravo
10. Power Rangers (before I finally realized the infinite loop)
Check out Nova Island Productions
It's messy :p

4. Rugrats
5. Hey Arnold!
6. Teen Titans
7. Young Justice
8. Dan Vs.
9. Adventure Time
10. Powerpuff Girls

Honorary Mentions: Batman Beyond, Animaniacs, and Tiny Toon Adventures.
