I honestly think the dub sounded better. I'm more comfortable with dubs, even though they lack in effort to make it sound like the character. But you try to get some japanese person to play an english speaking role for an anime. You'd probably get something worse due to the rarity of those kind of japanese actors, I supose.

It may have sounded better, but it doesn't convey the original personality of the character, is the point. Plus, like BG said, a lot of times in dubs subtle things are lost.
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

I never really feel that I lose anything, apart from, perhaps, some immersion, which actually works in my favour.

When dubbed, normally, it just sounds ridiculous to hear these, normally rather incredible, voices coming out of these ridiculous characters and I can't help but laugh or just not be able to click.

While when subbed, I still get to hear the tone of it, get the information, and it seems more legit and right to me.

This is true, I've not heard a good dubbed character yet, apart from maybe Ghibli films but those are well chosen actors e.g Christian Bale as Howl.

Both Full Metal Alchemist animes had pretty good dubbed voice actors in my opinion, however I still preferred the subbed

I imagine it wouldnt be bad if the studios would hire proper english voice actors... I mean, I've watched enough english cartoon to know that they're out there.

Which is a hilarious idea consider how expensive it is to buy anime outside of the rare complete box set.

Well, guess since I'm new here I might as well pop in and say hi here before I start doing anything crazy involving me writing some wholly absurd fantasy and putting it up somewhere.
So hello, everyone, I guess. I do hope to see you all around and perhaps actually write up something worth your time and effort, provided that I find the force of will to get back into writing up half-decent introductory posts.

Is that too formal? Should I lighten up?
I've been looking around, and it's obvious there are too damn many bronies here.
It makes me feel as if I'm part of a group.
I find this quite distressing. Praise Celestia.

We require no preset mood to new posters. Just post and talk in your comfortable manner.

Welcome to the RP section. Only have a couple games active these days, so pickings are slim. Can try making a new one if you want -- following the rules and getting it voted in first, of course -- but a lot of folks prefer to have some experience with a GM in prior games, so it's not exactly recommended. But we had times where new folks had great ideas before, so you can still try.

Well, with that out of the way, I'm Ro. Nice to see a new face. I'll try to answer any questions you got if no one gets to it first. (Someone usually does.) Might not be signed in often, but I pop in everyday to check the place if you ever need anything.

I've mostly just been reading a few of the comics up until now. I actually joined mostly because I saw there was a bit of life in the RP section.
I'm working up a character for the X-men thread, if I can get my brain to focus on it sufficiently. I feel so out of practice coming here. Then again, I just plain feel completely outclassed right now. I'll try what I can though. Work back up to where I used to be first, then improve on that.

You seem fine, Kohai, and you seem to have a good RP... attitude? Skill? I'm not quite sure what word to use there. But yeah, we don't have an enormous RP section, but I like to think it's the area of Snafu to relax and play a "game" as it were. In other words, we're pretty laid back here.

I'm a bit out of practice for full on RPing is all. I've only been doing script style over the past few months, which is no way to keep up a writer's capacity to write in-depth.
Sure, I'm not aiming for any sort of purple prose, but hey, a guy can dream a bit, eh?
I'll get to work on the insanity that is writing a biography. Maybe by the time I get done, the GM will have returned from hiatus.

EDIT: Of course, all that is entirely dependent on me not getting distracted by listening to music.

I probably wouldn't have laughed like I did if it wasn't for your avatar, BL.

Happy Birthday Quicksilver! :D
As I saw the creature, I was as white as an egg. I was so scared I might crack from fear. As the humanoid began to lunge after me, I was walking on egg shells from how scared I was. It grabbed me, took me to its station, and cracked me open. The last thing I saw were my yellow insides cooked on a pan. Human nature is as evil as a rotten egg.
