Since you're a fan of Anno's work like me, you might find it interesting that the original version of Space Battleship Yamato from 1974 was the inspiration for the entire Nautilus arc of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water and was clearly referenced in the Wunder portion of Evangelion 3.33.

It's a very influential work, like Mobile Suit Gundam, although the original doesn't age that well, but it's still worth checkiing out just to have an opinion.

One Piece manga is on a two week break due to Oda being in hospital, thankfully I have One Piece: Pirate Warriors to tide me.

Yeah heard about it. The average One Piece fan is a drama queen. Don't mean you, I've read some whiny comments on Crunchyroll. Follow Berserk. Black Lagoon or HxH then you'll know what a true hiatus is.

I am grateful that Oda doesn't do very long Hiatuses(?) but two weeks is one of the longest, hopefully it won't affect anime. Can't be dealing with both versions on hold.

Compared to american comics, two weeks are nothing. I handle months in between issues. The trick is anticipating a different comic at a different time in the month.

Pff, damn mangaka. How dare they work 6 days a week, producing only 20 comics pages in that time and then like once a year take a week off because sickness?!

Yeaaaaaah, abooout that... I've only watched evangelion and gunbuster of his stuff. Haven't even gotten around to Gunbuster 2. But I'm intrigued now, so I'll check it out. Can't be worse than Incest Art Online *grin*

Space Battleship Yamato or Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water? Cause Nadia is woth checking out, too, I thought for sure you had watched it. It's before Anno went crazy and it had more executive meddling, so it's not up there with NGE, but it's still a very solid series. Has a bit of a slow start, but once they get to join Nemo, it's pretty good.

Interesting trivia when Yoshiyuki Sadamoto was designing Shinji Ikari, he just made him a male Nadia without brown skin.

You can download the original Space Battleship Yamato here:

The remake Asmo is watching, is still ongoing, so there's no batch for it yet.

Yamato. Though might do the other one too while I'm at it. I've watched so much new, mediocre series it might be time to watch some old stuff.

I've tried to get into Yamato. For one it didn't work because it was a cartoon behind a screen, but the other reason is that I think it didn't age well.

Loved Black Lagoon. Tuor got me on to that one.

You should give the remake a chance then, its really, really good. The release rate is a little troubling though, it'll be months before new episodes are out it seems

"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

*shrugs*

I have no interest in reading while watching. Might as well just pick up the manga if I was going to do that.

I prefer dubbed, but if there was no other option then sub.

I prefer subbed because nothing's lost in the translation to a new voice, the jokes and inflection from the Japanese voice actors are always spot on in subbed because it's the original dialogue.
