Accountability

Postby Hana » Sun Apr 14, 2013 2:39 pm

So....my craft area is a right mess. In an attempt to poke myself into getting the motivation to clean it, I'm going to embarrass myself by showing you all that mess.

Image

I'm going to tidy in 15 minute spurts...and then I will reveal the results of my hard work.

You may begin nagging at me to clean starting...now. (see you in 15 minutes!)

Or feel free to post things that YOU need to be held accountable for!

So you're hoarding.

It's nothing to be ashamed about really. I clean my room and it gets messed up a few minutes later. I end wasting precious time.

I like this idea. The best cure for procrastination does seem to be social accountability.

I got the ironing board cleaned off and put away. Stupid flat surfaces attracting everything.

Breakdown:

Get cashmere off of swift and move stool and chairs to get access, then clean floor. SWEEP. Deal with the cord tangle! Quick reorganize of shelving. Tidy serger table (only active projects, serger & doll dressform & stand should live here!). Put bobbin and flyer back onto spinning wheel. Find temporary home for the to-ply cashmere.

Go through basket of fabric? Self, you haven't looked in the basket for 6 months. Be brutal with decisions about what to keep and what goes! Anything from the days when you were smoking needs to be trashed! PERIOD!

Heh, mess. I'm far more organized in my room when it's a mess.

Hell, this is the state of my side of the room at my old man's place right now.

Honestly, the only reason it got this messy is because I was sick and had a depression down-swing. Food, clean laundry, and clean dishes were a higher priority than organizing the craft area.

Wow, Hiroko, you have a lot of stuff!
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

I'm not a fucking hoarder. I was depressed and had other shit to do.

Cheerleading, good. Nagging, okay. Shaming, NOT OKAY.

I think that was more aimed at hiroko's picture where it looks less like a mess and more like she just has a ton of stuff.

Lemme explain.

If you're a crafter, you understand the need to have lots of raw materials. Inspiration could strike at any moment, and without the raw materials and tools, you're fucked and can't do anything. What is someone who sketches without a pencil ready whenever they decide to draw? What is someone who sews without fabric to sew? What is a knitter without yarn to knit? And then there's paper...and sewing machines and pins...and needles and stitch markers...etc, etc, etc.

If you're not a crafter, you look at the volume of sheer stuff and go "wtf? Hoarder!"

It's a very sensitive point for many creative people. So if you know someone who sews, or knits, or does leatherworking or...usually it's some sort of creative pursuit...never ever use the H word.

It's clean as it's going to get for now. I went through the fabric basket and tossed 3/4ths of it.

Now, I'm repairing this upcycled footstool thing that Aria keeps ripping apart. Stupid low temp glue isn't very durable...
