Well, the controls don't seem clunky, not to me. The cover system's been removed, dodging can only executed with proper timing, enemies don't drop items (so you have to search for supplies), and the enemy AI can sometimes be somewhat clever (especially with Hunters). In addition, individual enemies can sometimes be a threat by themselves (and I'm not just talking about bosses). Lastly, there's no way to get "infinite" ammo, so you'll always be scrounging (with the exception of an infinite Rocket Laucher, but you have to beat the game on the hardest difficulty for that, so you feel like you've earned it). The entire game seems to have brought back a creepy feel to the series, and fighting the final boss make me think of Castlevania (namely the ambiance of the room, and the appearance of the boss himself).
