And the good lord sayeth: Come forth The Talk Thread XVIII!

This forum can be a scary place, 'cause we got lax rules: let's see your war face. Take a breath, and roll the dice, you might find out we're really nice.

I'll probably be at the midnight release at that time. Preordered that a while back. Really looking forward to it.

Did you just get the game, Premium Edition, or Songbird Edition? Also, did you finish Industrial Revolution?

I actually (sadly) got just the game, but I wanted to get the Premium. I was too late to get it as it was limited. I asked my retailer what I can do and they said if I return WITH my game on Sunday and that they have some Premiums that didn't get picked up from pre-order, then I can pay $20 more, and transfer my copy with the premium edition. Hope I get it...

I only shelled out for the game. I'm not all for all that extra stuff. It's too much to splurge on.

Eh, I thought I'd be worth it. I mean for $20 more you get the artbook, posters, and some little trinkets. I guess since I love Bioshock I wanted to get the Premium.

Thank god there's still narration by a black guy.

Also, cyberpunk seems to be getting back into gaming in general, hallelujah for that.

People need to stop fanboying and pre-ordering games.

It's unhealthy for the games industry and the market.

To be fair, it's okay to pre-order games you know you can trust. A small indie dev will not try to pull of the kind of shit DukeNukem:Forever or Aliens:CM pulled.

Nah, I just don't like preordering period.

Some games end up fucking the person over by looking good, then playing like shit.

There's just something about hype that ruins the game. The way I see it, pre ordering is a form of hype.

This is actually my 1st time pre-ordering a game (maybe my last). I just wanted to get the bioshcok Infinite pre-order bonus. Please don't hate me...

If I hated you for preordering something, that would be very stupid indeed.

Don't worry, it's your choice, and I don't hate you for what you do with your life.

Theres a deal on greenmangaming where if you preorder bioshock infinte you get two other games. So preordering can't be all bad, if you know you're going to buy the game anyway then preorder if you want to
Have you tried turn it off and on again?

Yeah, but they don't interest me and 2 of those games we're the 1st 2 Bioshock games, which I already have. If you get Bioshock Infinite for the PS3 you get the original for free.

This is why we can't have nice things. It's because people buy into the bshit that is day-one DLC, or pre-order bonuses that they keep doing this crap. Back in the day everything in a game that's been done and finished on the launch day was packed together and sold as the game. That included extras that the dev team managed to make in their spare time before release. Now they spend development time making extras that aren't sold with the game buy separately with the DLC, because they no longer think you guys deserve a full gaming experience. And since the game is shit and you will dislike it either way, they must also convince you to buy it before it launches, so that there are no bad reviews available telling you how shit their product is. And so they give you the content that should have been a part of the game from launch as day-one DLC or pre-order extras.
I can't say I condemn them giving you the old versions of the game as bonuses for pre-order. But any extra game content sold that way is just them fucking your wallets.

I do have a problem with day one dlc and locked on disc dlc. Preorder bonuses aren't that big of a deal except when they do the "every store gets something different" model. Because most people are going to preorder highly anticipated games no matter what so to reward those people or to sway anyone on the fence is fine.

Keep in mind that in many cases they waste the dev's time to develop parts of content that doesn't go to the customers but the gaming experience is divided into chunks and given out only to those who pre-order.

Also pre-orders that ruin the game. Look at DeadSpace 3. Oh, you pre-ordered? Here. Let us give you some overpowered weapon parts that will make this "survival horror" a walk in the park. Oh what? It was supposed to be a tense fight-to-survive type of a game, which is meant to be difficult? Well let us give you some micro-transactions so that you can buy the right to watch the game's ending without having to actually play it.

I was talking of the concept of a preorder bonus as a whole, not the individual types that can break games difficulty curve, split the online crowd because of maps, I'm perfectly fine with them giving a bonus mission for solo play(again we are talking about rewarding those who put faith in you) or giving you skins or some other non game breaking status object. Or I'd like to see more games like Rage where they gave you a reward for buying new instead of used.

Well, I only brought this all up because in your statement:
Preorder bonuses aren't that big of a deal except when they do the "every store gets something different" model.

You seem to imply that anything other than the problem you mentioned doesn't really bother you.

But I agree with you on the pre-order skins and non-game-breaking additions.

Which also reminds me.
Exodis wrote:Yeah, but they don't interest me and 2 of those games we're the 1st 2 Bioshock games, which I already have. If you get Bioshock Infinite for the PS3 you get the original for free.

See, getting previous bioshock titles as a pre-order bonus here is not really even worth it. Odds are if you actually wanted to play these you would have bought them already, like Exo said. So basically pre-ordering bioshock to get the 1st two games is just to put them into your steam/whatever library and perhaps dab into them once but never really play them.
