California.

Also, I'm just not in a situation to splurge. Self sufficient since graduation. Don't have the breathing room to own a lot of nice things. Most of my big stuff have either been gifts, given out for free, or just came with the room.

Hence why you wait till Black Friday. If you can manage to save or get a summer job, you can get a nicer TV then, and it could be either new or used.

"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

Black Friday? Isn't that the silly made-up holiday when people trample each other to death trying to get into stores?
To be honest, I think nothing says "USA" louder than the footage of that carnage taking place in wal-mart.

Yeah that's the one. Funny little holiday. Day before we are so grateful for what we have and the next day (sometimes later that night) we trample each other to death to buy cheaper stuff.

I find that an intense pursuit of material goods is unfitting of beings living on the comfort level we have achieved nowadays.

Like how someone will point out to me that I've bought something in a way that was more expensive while I could have easily saved some money on that purchase. Or when people are all hastily rushing to places where they don't need to be in at the exact time, and thinking that I'm not assertive because I don't mouth off that I want to be served immediately but am rather willing to wait my turn even when everyone around is cutting in line.

It's not really a holiday. There's no celebrating. It just signals the start of Christmas shopping season and stores capitalize on that with special sales.

Indeed, but I don't think I've experienced the second part of your post yet. There shouldn't be any rush with things like this, but as humans, we do want the best deals. I guess it appeals to our greed. I find it interesting that Black Friday class deals are coming out on the internet as well. I think its the Monday after or something.

Unnecessarily long shopping period. Still extended sometimes. I believe it ate your thanksgiving once.

Once? Is. I got my TV Thanksgiving night. Last time I participate in black Friday sales. Wal-Mart is a freaking mad house at that time.

I attempted to participate in Black Friday twice so far. Once 2 years ago to get myself a new computer (and failed since they were all already gone by the time I was allowed in the store), and then last year just to see if I could get cheap presents for family.

@ Tuor: I've dropped a lot of hints around about where I work and what I do for a long time now. Want me to tell you straight up or let you figure it out?

Indeed. But it's a whole lot more work than it sounds. Lately we even had some more rules put in for my job title to follow and I'm pretty much relearning shit, and it's a little annoying. Also, we put in a lot of effort for customer service. If you went to a Walmart or a Target after coming to us, you'd notice how shitty service actually is at most places.

It'd be even shittier than you remembered.

Or you'd just wish everywhere else had service like we do.

Time for my trick of reappearing and then disappearing for another few months.

We have a Doctor Who thread now. Doctor Who threads are cool.
