No they lose money on hardware, some consoles can be offset at launch with smart pricing and one or two sales like the WiiU. I think this gen will start out better than some previous gens because of the homogenization of architecture. Right now we barely know what's going be released at the end of this year on the consoles already out, but I'm sure it can't be worse than the PS2 or PS3 launch window and maybe even the year following.

Got the PS3. I like Gears of War, but that's literally THE only exclusive game I like. I could really care less for Halo.

I would rather wait until AFTER its launch to get the PS4. Every system has its kinks at launch. I'll just wait for them to get worked out and for a price drop. I was gonna get the Wii U around launch, but that launched horribly, from what I've heard. Nothing but constant updates and crashes during those updates. My neighbor bought her kid a Wii U and I was helping her hook it up, brand new from Walmart. The console stayed stuck at the logo screen (the very first screen that pops up when you turn on the console) and wouldn't turn off. Had to unplug it to turn it off.

As for the PC, I think that's the most expensive. For newer games, you need to get a better computer, and, from my experience, it's easier to hack games. Sure, with other consoles, you waste money buying games and controllers and whatnot, but that's spread out over time, not all at once (just the way I see it.)

I've played on all systems, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii (which I own, but is currently in my little sister's room cuz she plays it the most), and, as fun as PC is, I'd rather play with a controller if it's going to be games like GTA, CoD, Super Smash Bros., Mario games, ect. I'll play games on the PC, like Minecraft, WoW, League of Legends, or Diablo, but I don't really get into them that much like other games out of PC.
