Personally, I'm very surprised that such a tread exists here. for me, it shows how relaxed everyone has gotten since I left, or that I've never seen this before because the opportunity was never there.

Either way, its an awesome thread and great people are here.

Where do you go again (unless you haven't indicated and don't want to say)? I may end up transferring to UC Riverside in a year depending on what happens with my parents.

Fresno. Great music program there. UCR is good for sciences if that's what you're interested in, but sucks for everything else really. My brother, who's a graphic designer transferred to APU to finish his degree because UCR wasn't cutting it.

Just two things:

1) My Dad got me and my Mom flowers. Never physically presented them to me, just had them on the table. I never got a chance to say thank you, which I was going to do, and he came down into the basement and started yelling in my face demanding a thank you.

Now my problems with this are that he did this on Valentine's Day, which is day that pretty much "establishes" you get flowers/chocolate/whatever for your wife/kids/girlfriend/boyfriend/whatever example you can think of. I would have appreciated this more if this were on a random day, not today.

And this is where DaCrum comes in, because he seems to think $5 flowers, after months of abuse, is a nice gesture.

2) It may seem like a nice gesture, but it's not. This is a pretty damn good example of someone in an abusive relationship, that thinks flowers is good enough for an apology. This doesn't work for me. It may work with other women, which are the ones who continue to be abused, but it sure as hell doesn't work for me. I'm not accepting anything except for an apology. And that apology better include what he's sorry for. Will I forgive? Eh. I'll pretend that I do. But I sure as hell won't forget, and still moving the hell out of here as soon as I am able.

Maybe I'm being really stubborn, but oh well. I'll take being a stubborn bitch, than taking bullshit from him.

I am NOT saying that it excuses his behavior, or that you should attempt to reconcile with him, or forgive him, or do anything like that. I'm saying that you should just appreciate a nice gesture. But whatfuckingever. I'm probably wrong. Sorry.

A nice gesture certainly wouldn't be giving the most predictable and generic gift on valentines day, and then expecting a "thank you" for it

Not just expecting, but demanding one. All he gets is that those around him thinks he's done something wrong and hasn't realized what that is or even believe that he was in the wrong.

You're not being stubborn, i'd have also thought it was a dick move.
It's basically going "here, i gave you these flowers, now you have no right to be angry for shit".

...You don't expect a thank you for a Valentine's gift. That kinda defeats a purpose of a gift in general, let alone a Valentine's gift. It makes you look like a douche.

I can sympathize with such a situation Stuff. So I'm still thinking of something to share here, I have many things but very few I can think of I would need a form of therapy on. Guess I'll just share shiz when I get the time.

Do it when you feel comfortable God knows I'll never unload my bags here.

@ Stuff: Agreed. But I would at least try to work it out with him. Maybe something is going on with him that he is struggling with and those that are around him and that he cares about are feeling his frustration. Perhaps if a civil conversation is still open then that would be a good idea. If not then maybe you and your Mom leaving will open his eyes that he needs to change and do better. If that happens, let him try to be better and have patience.

See, every time me and my Mom. Or even if we try by ourselves, he takes it as we're attacking him and that we are in the wrong. Nothing is wrong with him. It's everyone else. So it always ends up with him yelling at us, which of course, because I don't take bullshit...me yelling back.

Then just leave if he isn't willing to talk it out in a civilized manner. He's failing at his job as a father and husband right now.

Man, my depression was ridiculously bipolar today. I had at least 4 times where I had gone from a really happy mood to a total depression. Right now? I'm on an upbeat mood! I'll probably fall asleep upbeat which is nice! I honestly had a good day, good talks with one of my closest friend. He's determined to try and ensure that more people talk to me, since my huge problem with the depression is the lack of support from my peers.

Stuff, I'm sorry. I really wasn't thinking about what I was saying, and I got defensive really quickly. Sometimes my propensity to give people chances is dumb, and inconsiderate. So yeah. Sorry. :/
