I don't even remember if he was on your island. But he did say that what he thought was Portuguese in the US actually turned out to be from the Azores, which makes sense because the Portuguese population in New England is mostly from the Azores or Madeira originally and some identify as Azorean or Madeiran instead of Portuguese. Also, Boston is like the only direct flight to the Azores landing in Ponta Delgada.

Only airport on my island and I don't live very far from it.
A lot of people here also say they're Azorian instead of Portuguese. Also know for a fact that there are sweets from Azores that are done no where outside of it for the exception of US.

Well again, Azoreans and Madeirans were the big immigrants to the US because they were already seagoing folk. And it reflects where the highest concentrations of them settled coastal New England, California and Hawaii.

Hawaii is the place with the sweets from here, I remember seeing them on Hawaii Five-O.
Not sure if the biggest concentration of emigrants is still there, but for the lest couple of decades a lot of people from here have been moving over to Canada more than anywhere else. Heck, my godfather's been living at Toronto for at least 2 decades.
