Yayyyy, kinda like:

Look on the road ahead
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

It explains why sometimes you see emphasis in books and such with quotation marks or bolds over certain words. It really can change a lot.

"Off to a nunnery with you" still plagues me. Did he mean a brothel or an actual place for nuns?

off to a NUNNERY with you
off to a nunnery WITH you
off to a nunnery with YOU

none of those really say "brothel" to me

@ Riz: Well, in the time of Shakespeare, "nunnery" both meant a place for nuns or a brothel (whore house). I don't know why, or how the slang got started. But it's a real thing.

And it's just something that popped up for me while bringing emphasis up. No matter how many times I see it acted out, it never gives a good hint to if it means one or the other.

I DON'T FUCKING KNOW! If I knew why, it wouldn't be something I'd be wondering about. Even the book I was given says it meant both a whorehouse and a convent at the time.

Well, it wasn't mine anyways. Anywho, finally found why the meaning of nunnery also meant brothel and such. During the Elizabethan era it was twisted into a dirty thing with there no nunneries around.

It's believed Shakespeare was actually making a pun bringing it up in Hamlet, but it's still speculated.

Edit: Yeah, that.

Lil' explanation on the word "friend" will help.

There's the male version of the word (amigo) and there's the female version (amiga). Last week was Dia (Day) dos Amigos, men go out with friends and have a couple of beers, talk about stuff and go back home. An ordinary night.
Today is Dia das Amigas, where women go out, get extremely shitfaced, torment male strippers (this one is a granted, female strippers get tormented too) and several end up on the news due to several men ending up raped or beaten up because of how shitfaced some women get.
The news advise men to stay inside at night today.
