As much as I love Wind Waker, I would much rather Nintendo put their energy into making a new Zelda instead of re-making them. It just feels like they are running out of ideas.

They are making a new zelda game, they probably just put a smaller team on Wind Waker HD

I would love to see Majoras Mask redone instead of Windwaker, personally, but it's whatever. I'd like to see Windwaker in HD. I loved the atmosphere, ideas, story and the 3 days before you die, though, making the game unique in itself.

I know, I meant I'd rather they put the effort put into remaking the Wind Waker into a game no one's seen before.

I'll probably still end up playing the Wii U version. Or at least trying it.

They're doing it as a side-project, kind of as a technical* favour to their fans. The new games going to take quite a while so they're releasing this to tie us over.

*I say technical, because everyone has been hounding them for a Majora's Mask remake and i don't think I've heard of anyone asking for a Wind Waker remake because that shit already looks nice.

They were honestly just testing textures for the new game and they were like "oh hey this actually looks really cool let's just do this thing on the side." You need to keep in mind that Nintendo probably has a massive production team dedicated to Zelda alone, so them doing an HD remake of Wind Waker won't effect the new game at all.

It's odd, I seem to remember that Majora's Mask was originally considered sorta of a dud. Not a bad zelda game, but not quite great compared to Ocarina of Time. These days, the concept of the evil moon has reached memetic levels and the nostalgia seems greater than the game warranted.

Or perhaps my memory is just fuzzy.

ooh, shiny. Well, the colors are more vivid, and the shadows are more pronounced. I wonder if there's more gameplay content, or they just simply polished it up?

I don't even know why this game needs to be shined up, overall cel shaded games haven't aged terribly because they're not trying to have any kind of photorealism.
