Keep in mind, that sword is conflict. He understands your tongue perfectly so understands diplomacy, if you look closely there is no way he could have gotten his weapons and armor without some form of it.
Reason with the creature and you might find better results than swinging a weapon ever could....

After the sword is given back that is.


Now I just gotta wait on a post from BL, then I take a shot at Arvashok for another trophy.

@Berry, I love the post, thanks for it. Denerim is also going to get a lot more interesting.

It don't think a Grey Warden Commander would do that unless the situation is pressing. Yes, I know, the Kingdom is falling apart because of the crazed notions of a mad man, what could be more pressing then that? I'll put something up. The action of keeping the sword just seems utterly selfish now.

Selfishness isn't really a part of it. You took that blade because it belonged to you and your brothers/sisters. It was forged for the purpose of proving rank, so regardless of who was killed to pass it to Zha'Gren it belongs to you. Take a firm stance and explain that.
