For a cartoon that isn't a problem, but in 3D it won't look nice.

Epic Mickey found a way to pull it off. Although I think the way they did it was just editing the ears so that they always faced the camera no matter where Mickey turned while animating. So, unless you're actually going to animate the model, too, I doubt this would be super useful to you. ^^;

And like what Hiroko said, that's what they did for Epic Mickey. I checked to see if they actually did that for the game too before bringing it up and it was cool seeing they kept that "always round" theme going. If you can manage animating that in, you'd sure get props.

If your teacher's a fan of Disney, I'm sure he/she'd appreciate the effort.
