Last year, a buddy of mine (guy named Opey) inherited a large sum of money when his father passed away after a long battle with cancer. Being that he and his dad always used to go fishing when he was younger, and that his dad's old fishing boat had seen better days, he decided to go out and buy himself a boat. Not just some old bass boat, a big pontoon thing, one of those party barges.

He went down to the marina and picked out the perfect boat, paid the guy, and drove it back across the lake to his place.

At this point, Independence Day was coming up in about two weeks. Opey has always been a patriotic guy, supporting the US military and loving his country, decided to name his boat "The Fourth".

Cheesy, yes.

It's been a tradition for years now that our group goes out to the lake to celebrate the 4th of July, fireworks and grilling and bbq and such, and Opey invited us all to come out and enjoy his new boat with him, and spend the day on the water.

He called me, his cousin Opey (yes, there are two of them, #1 the original and #2 his cousin), and my brother Luke, to come out early and help him get everything set up.

Now, my brother enjoys his liquor, and by the time we have half the supplies on the boat, he's already a few beers in.

About the time Luke goes to step off the boat, the boat shifts in the water from the wake from another passing boat, making him lose his balance. As he started to fall face first onto the dock, Opey's cousin reaches out and grabs him by the back of his shirt, and pulls him back onto the boat, saving him from a terribly hilarious fall.

The moral of the story?

Opey 1's kin Opey saved Luke from falling to the dock side of The Fourth.
