My first guitar is 10 years old and still looks like new (10 years? holly shit i'm old)

It was cheaper than buying a completely new one here but if i convert pesos to USD it was pretty close to 3 grand because in Bogota everything is almost twice as expensive but you get used to living here so i can take the hit.

Still, im happy with the purchace.

The wood used isn't that cheap, there is a lot of labor to build one, there's a mark up for the retailer, there's a mark up because of the prestige of the builder, the electronics is about $300-400 alone. And Gibsons can be quite overblown in price for the name and you can get comparable quality guitars for cheaper, but like anything the bigger the name of the creator the more it costs but also the better it holds its value.

A guy may buy a very expensive bong that works the same as any $5 plastic one, but it won't look as cool nor will it have more value for the owner.

Same principle for instruments. A $30 wooden guitar without brand may sound the same (or better depending on the manufacturer) than a $1000 one, but it won't be made of mahogany, nor will it have such a delicate finish on the elements of the product, nor feels that boss.

The labor alone is somthing that weights on it. most of my school projects involve working wood and the finest ones are fucking expencive.

I kinda want to make guitars when i am proficient enough.

Depends on the brand, also just because the list price is $3000 doesn't mean that is what it will sell for, most retailers set those prices high so they can be chipped down to where they want to be. Also, expensive guitars actually stop depreciating in value after about 15 years and actually start rising again after about 20-25, cheap guitars rarely go up in value unless they are ridiculously old and rare.

Not really, I mean with any brand you pay for the logo somewhat, but generally you're paying for the superior craftsmanship/quality of the materials used to make the instrument.
