I'm actually quite hopeful for the next set of generations: kids who grow up from parents who were completely fucked over by
their parents will by and large, not fuck over their children's future because of you know, unconditional love and technology and shit.
The 1910-20 era bore the "Greatest Generation", and they were a bunch of drug-addict binging romantics who freaked out about evolution and banned alcohol, and then their rich people broke their stock market and destroyed their economy, forcing children to grow up in tough circumstances and understand them as they grew up, right as World War II started. Then they implemented the Marshall Plan and boomed the economy in the 50s. Then they started having our parents and grandparents. Boom and bust. The GI Bill. Social Security. Lots of things conspired against the generations to come.
But it doesn't change the fact that technology keeps getting better in exponential leaps, so we keep minimizing problems except when they are needed, so I'm optimistic.
