Last month, at the Emerald City Comic Con, had the pleasure of FINALLY meeting Jhonen Vasquez. I had been wanting to meet him for about 12 years and it finally happened. He was the main reason I went to the con and I wanted to do something nice for him as a thanks for all the great stories he has brought us. So I gave him a sketch of one of my characters, Thomas, from my comic http://www.andtobeloved.com/, hugging a Gir doll. In exchange, he did an AMAZING sketch of Johnny in like 60 seconds. I am ever so grateful for this and it went right up on my wall. You can see JV's sketch and mine below.

Not to be a jerk but these threads seem complimentary, so I am merging them. It's okay to plug away in one thread though, so this is fine.

Welcome! Your comic is not hated here yet so I expect several people will try it out. If people do end up hating it, you'll also enjoy knowing that it wouldn't be for homophobia, but for a presumed lack of quality 8D.

So I guess it's a crime to start one thread to help promote my comic?? Sure, we'll go with that. It's spam. And none of the other threads that promote the author's own work are not spam. Only mine is. Yup.

As for the other thread, I only started it becuase I saw "Zim" in the topics of this particular forum and I thought other might like to see the sketches, regardless of the fact that one of the images is of my own character (which DOES feature Gir at the same time). So it's not like I'm going into each forum and starting a new thread with radom giberish just for the sake of self promotion. So far my posts have been pretty waranted and acceptable, in my opinion.

Now, if I decide to start yet anther thread promoting my comic (which I don't intend to do), I'll post it in the spam thread.

Well I'm not going to let someone make me feel like I've done something wrong for starting a thread about my comic, that's all. And I'm especially not going to let a small few of long term users try giving me a hard time right off the bat just for kicks (or for more opportunies to post THEIR own banner for that matter - two way street, right?).

Now, if you (the collective "you") look at my work and have a critique about it that's totally fine. A legitimate critique that show's that you actually looked at it and absorbed it, even if it's just one panel of one page. It's great in fact! But I don't see the problem in starting this thread. Was it wrong of me? I'm honestly asking - should I not have started this thread in this particular forum? Yes you are right, I'm new here. And haven't had this issue at any other sites so please fill me in. Help me, I'm new!

Thanks, Goggy. It was great to finally meet JV. He comprised a very short list of creators I haven't had the chance to meet yet. It seemed like every time he was at a con (which is rare) it was nowhere near where I lived at that time. Now I just have to wait for Dave Sim and Alan Moore to do some more cons... which will probably never happen in the states. Dang. At least I got to talk to Dave Sim over the phone one time. That was cool.

But yeah, Jhonen is awesome and I reread JTHM about once a year for my annual fix.

Hello, you might want to take a look at the Art Subforum here as well. It hasn't been getting much traffic lately but there is no reason why you can't post a plug about your work there as well as use it to post general art or works in progress.

Who knows, you might help to breathe some life into it.

I totally forgot that the art section existed. It could use more people.

Mirak used to be a moderator, so that's his excuse. If you wanted to get attention from the right people, posting about it in this sub-forum may not have been the best move. Maybe in Snafu? Never sure where comic plugs should go.

The art section is generally where people post comic plugs and other such things.

To add to the rest and go one step further, I forgot about the Art forum.

Does that really go a step further? I see no embellishments there!
