Aldrnari - Amber Falls

Aldrnari looked down as William tumbled to her feet. She sighed lightly, suppressing a smile. It wouldn't be nice to laugh at his clumsiness. "It's nice enough, though I doubt that attitude will prevail amongst the group for very long." She looked up again to watch the growing group of children, a frown creasing her childish features. As she saw one child in particular, one of the few she'd never had a chance to see, a sigh escaped from her lips, and her entire form seemed to crumple as if the wind had been knocked out of her. Orange robes? That would be a beacon for at least a hundred yards on the road.

Things were going slowly. The sun was inching steadily higher and many of the children scheduled to leave had yet to appear. Aldrnari was itching to be on the move. Like most rangers, Aldrnari preferred to get going as soon as she had finished receiving her mission debriefing. Dallying for so long just left her feeling restless and awkward, but it wasn't like she could leave without the others. Well, she didn't think she could, at least, even though it would have been much faster for her to do so. She watched quietly as the girl with the blue hair and the nervous-looking little boy walked up to her, nodding in acknowledgement.

Alexander was glad the boy didn't mind his company,it could have been so easy to make a bad impression by doing something like falling over by accident. He looked at the meat the boy handed to him and took a large bite, contemplating all the while what to talk about until he saw the flame the traveler in the orange robe had made and decided to ask a weird question." hey, you wouldn't happen to know any cool magic would you? I mean...I can do fire magic but I have a feeling that guy has much more experience under his belt than me".

Alexander finally paused long enough to breath, he was being a chatterbox. "Oh! I guess I should introduce myself, I'm Alexander Grier, part-time Inventor and full time Blacksmith! but the question still remains, who are you?". Alexander leaned back as he posed the question to the other boy ,and stroked his chin, simultaneously raising an eyebrow.

Gregory smiled as his friend played her silly little game, "I'm going to guess it's the woodsmith with no interest in wood." The young merchant wrested himself away from Alexandra and backed away to look upon her. "You're certainly dressed comfortably." He commented on her overalls, "A good choice I suppose, for travel.." He began walking steadily down the street that would eventually lead out of town, ready to begin getting a move on. He beckoned she begin walking, as it had occurred to him that there was no stipulation that they all needed to stick together on the trip to Sunfish Pond.

Gregory held an ulterior motive in wanting to leave beyond a simple love for adventuring, as he felt it would be a good marketing decision to make it to the inn before the others and begin selling wares from Amber Falls before a sudden influx of the villages goods became clear to any travelers.

"I am." she smiled, crossing her arms, making her breasts stick up a little more. "Who's your friend?" she asked, glancing at Orcus. "One of the guys you were gonna set me up with?" She was playing off their jokes from the previous night. Looking around, she noticed the people from the previous night but still not catching a glimpse of the girl she'd been trying to hit on during the feast. With a shrug, she looked back at Gregory as she listened to his answer.

Orcus went blank at the girl and let them walk off. They seemed a little...much to be starting pleasant social acts with. People his own age seemed more erratic than the elders he'd seen being together. Well...apart from that couple he'd come across in the forest once. Disgusting. Anyway, Gregory had been easy to start with, but dealing with the new girl as well was a deal-breaker. He looked around for someone else he knew off...well, that was a dead-end. He grimaced and sped after them. He supposed it wouldn't hurt to get an early start on the trek ahead anyway. The name's Orcus miss. Spook-in-training. he said, answering her question himself. His staff rapped against the ground as he slowed into a comfortable pace beside them both. A rather odd trio we make. He nodded at her respectively as he thought about those who worked in the forest. And you would be...Alexander? Alexandra, perhaps? he ventured.

"Alexandra." she replied, offering a handshake to the seemingly nice young man. "Nice to meet you, Orcus." she smiled. "How long have you known Greg?" Still walking, she glanced back at the crowd, still not seeing the girl she had been- wait! No, it wasn't her. With a sigh, she looked back at Orcus, a smile on her face again.

Happy that Orcus had decided to come along after all, Gregory wanted to make sure they progressed, and so stood in the middle of them and draped his arms across their shoulders, holding the two of them close to him to form a trio. "Walk and talk, we got a good day ahead." He smiled as he moved the trio along towards the edges of town and beyond. They truly were an unusual trio for traveling, and were they going into more dangerous territory, Gregory would have waited to bring others along. However, the salesman felt the trip to Sunfish Pond did not really merit a full combat-ready party. He whistled a familiar tune aloud as Orcus and Alexandra spoke.

AHHHHHHHHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHHHHH! Orcus grimaced slightly and tensed up at Gregory's arm, but remained passive about it despite the internal screaming. Thankfully there wasn't any skin contact at least. A few years now I believe since we began exchanging pleasantries. I was fourteen at the time. he said to Alexandra blandly. I'd been visiting the shop for a while but I didn't talk much then. This position really did feel awkward, physically too, being slanted at an angle like this. He couldn't really look comfortably at Alexandra without getting his face worryingly close to Greg's. He missed personal space. Are you looking for someone? he asked. Hopefully this would merit a long response so he could get more comfortable without being obvious.

"Yeah, I met this really cute girl last night and I was hoping to see her again today. I can't find her and I can't remember her name." she sighed, slouching under Greg's arm. "You're not funny." she said, poking Greg's side with a smirk.

"And you're not gonna keep wasting your time on girls here in Amber Falls. " Greg let go of his two prisoners as they moved forward, he continued his sentence, gesturing grandly behind him to the landscape beyond the towns' end. "There's a whole world of girls out there for you to explore. We've all got our destinies out there. If it's romance you want, the world has it, if it's fame - go get it, if you're like me and you want treasure and riches.. Well, I certainly won't find that here in Amber Falls."

"Don't get me wrong,"
Gregory continued "I don't hate the place. Home will always be home, but for now it's time we go exploring, don't get yourself trapped on some girl you saw last night. Even just Crenshaw has multitudes of women for you to select from. If I may advise though, it's best to maintain poise for those situations. Speaking as an outsider to those boring little affairs, I think it's best if you go through and keep your romantic endeavors to a minimum. People will come and go in your life, so find yourself a goal and go for that, something abstract that will always be there to work towards.. " Gregory scratched his head as he realized he had become much more impassioned than he had initially intended to be. The thought of adventure urged him forward though, and excited his senses beyond his normal even-tempered nature.

"How about you, Orcus? You have anything like that? Something that keeps you going through the day?" The merchant turned on the spook to inquire and learn more about him.

"That makes total sense, Greg." she smiled, "Thanks." She then began thinking of what she wanted to do with her life. I don't want to spend all my life cutting down trees. she thought, looking at the sky above only partially obscured by the leaves. "I'll just work on getting stronger." she smiled, interlocking her fingers behind her head as she walked. "I still wish I had a better memory." she sighed. She then looked at Orcus with a smile. "Yeah, what's your goal?" she asked, spinning to walk backwards, only to trip over her own feet, landing on her rear end. "Ow." she said, laying on the ground, her eyes on the sky. "At least it's nice out and I didn't fall in the mud." she smiled, climbing back to her feet as she rubbed at her bottom.

Vincent shrugged and folded his arms again, “I didn’t want time for anything else, nor was it easy but it’ll be worth it,” he said staring at Emeline, “I studied most of the time I’ve been here, combat and magic, and when I wasn’t working for the guard I was practicing.”

His eyes lazily moved to Alexander for a moment before back to the girl, “Nothing’s wrong, I’m just a tad bit worried about one of the members of our party here. Some of them are squeamish, others are naive,” He let his arms hang down for a moment, “A large group like this is sure to have some problems in the city and where ever we go afterwards, we could get separated, attacked by highwaymen. Some of us will probably die even,” he didn’t matter much how grim the subject matter had turned to, for this is how Vincent regularly talked. His hands moved to and fro like he was weaving a spell when he spoke, and blinked rarely as he talked to the other girl.

His eyes flicked back to Emeline, “Would you like to go speak to your friend?” he asked in a neutral tone. He locked back onto Emeline with his feet rooted to the ground. Since she started speaking to him the teen hadn’t moved an inch from his spot, save swaying back and forth and folding his arms. Not to many people knew Vincent, nor did many find his pessimistic attitude fun to be around, but all he did was speak his mind and state the truth. Some of their party might die on their travels, or be splintered, all he was doing was preparing and bringing it to the girl’s attention. For Vincent, this trip wasn’t going to be all sunshine and roses, and if they visited a town or a city he had been to, he might have to pay his old families a visit. His mind began to wander back and forth between different time periods of his life. The scars on his back began to burn slightly as the memories came into his mind like invaders. Oh he'd have some vengeance if he could, but only if it didn't endanger anyone else in the group.

Orcus thought over their question as he pulled back and offered a hand to pull Alexandra up, pure natural instinct. He gave the question the same respect and thought he put into all his answers about himself. I think that at the very start, I kept going because I wanted to do a good job. He said, taking a quick step round Alex to see if she was alright. Then when that failed, I kept going because I didn't want to be a disappointment and a failure to my family. He nodded at the check-up and turned to Gregory. And when that failed, I kept going because there was nothing else for me. He walked over to Greg and as he passed he said. And when that failed, I kept going because of the beatings I took and the pain I'd suffered and the price I'd paid. he said blankly, his voice showing his knowledge that he knew this was what happened to everyone in life and nothing to make a big deal out of. He stopped a few steps ahead of them and looking forward at their path for a moment. Then he turned back to them. And now, I keep going because this is who I am and this is what I do. He smiled timidly for a fleeting moment. I just want to protect my home, look after my people and do what's best for them. I want to do my job. He beckoned at them to move on with his staff. We've all got a job to do, haven't we?

Alexandra smiled as Orcus helped her up and made sure she wasn't hurt, though she was a little uncomfortable to have him looking her over. "You make it sound so sad." she said, looking at him. "But you're right, we each have a job to do." She then froze and looked around quickly. "Did you hear that?" she asked quietly, looking around and listening. "It sounds like there's something big out there. Squirrels and chipmunks don't make that much noise." Her mouth curled to a smirk. "Whatever it is, it's dinner." she said before running into the trees, whipping her axe from her back.

'This kid's so...serious.' Emeline felt the excitement she had about the journey start to fade as Vincent shared his pessimistic though admittedly realistic opinion. Yes, she supposed there was a possibility some of them might die. Though there was still a chance none of them would. Vincent had referred to some of the others as naive and while Emeline didn't consider herself completely naive, she didn't see any harm in expecting the best. While she could be hesitant to trust others sometimes, it made her happier to try to find the good in things instead of focusing on the bad. To keep a blind eye was foolish but why make yourself miserable? The carpenter felt bad for the mage but she didn't tell him this. Instead she decided to make light of his remarks, "Yeah, I guess we could all die. But so far so good, none of us are dead yet." She suppressed a smile, trying to prevent him from being able to tell if she was serious or not.

When Vincent asked her if she wanted to go talk to Alexander, she wasn't sure if he was trying to ask her to go away. Emeline looked over to see Alexander engaged in conversation with Malkizid. The girl didn't know Malkizid too well, just his name and that he cooked. She didn't want to interrupt them but she caught sight of Alexandra, Gregory, and Orcus getting a head start on the trek to Sunfish Pond, she wanted to get going as well. "They're already headed out," she pointed to the trio in case Vincent hadn't noticed them leaving, "You wanna get going too?" She threw her backpack over her shoulder, "I'm gonna get Alex." She wanted to start this new journey with her friend, Emeline walked over to the two boys, unaware if Vincent was following her or not. "Hey Alex, hey Malkizid." she greeted the two. "Did you guys see Greg and them leave? I'm about to head out myself and I think he's coming with me. Not sure," she indicated to Vincent. "You two wanna get going too?- we don't want to be the last ones to make it to the pond." She smiled brightly, her excitement about the journey beginning to return.

Vincent gave a snort while he tried to stifle a laugh,"Good point." Vincent was fully aware he was being a kill-joy, but she asked him a question and he answered is truthfully. Maybe he went over the edge just a little as most of these kids were excited to finally be getting out and going on an adventure. "I'm sorry if I'm upsetting you, I've been this way for a long time," and he had, and he apologized for it when he thought it was due. The children of Amber Falls were looking forward to this throughout their apprenticeship and he was making grim and worst case scenario remarks. He had been trying to work on that, but was not doing a very good job at it. He rubbed his hands together tightly as he watched Emeline run over to the other two boys, his leather gloves squealed as he tightened his grip, as far as he knew the other children there didn't know how to fight, and if they were cut off he might be the only one keeping them sa- 'I need to stop being pessimistic about this...'

"Yeah," that one word was his only response to Emeline's request to get moving, and to be honest he didn't appreciate long good byes. He had been waiting to leave for the last two days, his foster parents were probably watching, wondering if they could run up and tell him good bye one last time, but before they got the courage to come up he would have already left. "I'll come with you," he said, "The bigger the group the safer we'll be, and speaking of which-" Vincent cut himself off and turned to face William. "Hey Will, we're leaving, care to join us?" Greater numbers means better protection in most cases. However, Vincent wasn't entirely sure of how well Will would do in a real fight but he'd certainly find out of the other guard decided to join him.

Lydia Chandler.

Lydia glanced back towards Junior for a moment as she was walking towards Aldrnari and William, pausing as she noticed a certain look on his features. She knew nervousness too well; she felt she had to repeat herself again. “Try not to worry Junior.” Her hands held his, as she glanced down towards him smiling gently. “We will be fine.” She spoke to him, telling herself the very same.

The sixteen year old girl came up to William and Aldrnari, smiling gently towards the ranger girl. “Hi there, wonderful morning isn’t it? You wouldn’t mind Junior and I to come with you do you?”

Aldrnari - Amber Falls

Aldrnari nodded again as the blue-haired girl asked her opinion on the weather. "It's good for travel." She looked at the three other children for a moment, her grey eyes scanning them quickly as they asked to travel with her. "You may join me if you wish, but the journey will not be easy. We'll be avoiding the road, and stopping at the lodge is out of the question. I must reach Crenshaw with all possible speed." She paused for a moment, letting her words sink in with the other children, but continuing quickly before they could ask any questions. "Following the road blindly is dangerous. Bandits will have many locations where an ambush from the tree line would become easy, in places where town guards do not patrol. Likewise, the traveler's lodge is easily surrounded, and has no great stock of food or drinking water inside. The clearing the elder mentioned as the second campsite is a better location, but not by much. A watch will still have to be placed if we choose to camp there."

Aldrnari fell silent, looking each of the others in the eye one by one, waiting for them to sort through the information she had provided them. She listened as the boy in orange robes asked William if he would like to travel with the other group, but paid little attention to it. It was an invitation between friends, and therefore none of her business. Looking up the road, her eyes scanned the forest, already plotting the easiest, safest route towards Crenshaw that would provide ample amounts of food, water and resting places.

Lydia let Aldrnari’s words sink in; the sudden realization of her fears had all been true. She almost felt like a yo-yo in between the thoughts of the journey being alright and it being not alright at all. The girl almost felt sick to the stomach, paling at the thought of being ambushed by bandits and following the road being blindly dangerous but she had tried not to show it for Junior’s benefit.

“Heheh, I guess you would know the best way to travel.” Lydia said nervously before sighing softly. “No road is ever easy is it? I don’t want to be a burden to you, but if you can get us to Crenshaw safely, we’ll come.”

- Sandra -

A single ray of early morning sun found its way through a crack in the curtains, shining directly on a girls face who seemed so sound asleep. It was shaping up to be a beautiful day, not just with the weather, but also in events. It was the time to leave the confines of Amber Falls and head out for the Dawn guild.

The girl winced and groaned, her head hurting with the pain that could fell a god. She turned around, facing away from the light that seemed to burn a hole in her head, her brain sluggishly following with what seemed like a delay. It felt like liquid, ready to seep out of her ear at any moment. She let out another groan, the sweet embrace of sleep slowly losing its grip on her and presenting her with the most hellish pain she had ever experienced.

That was when she noticed it, a sound like a wardrum. It was distant at first, but soon swelled in volume till it was the only thing she could hear, her brain throbbing on its beat. "SANDRA! TIME TO GET UP!" she heard her mother yell as she stomped up the wooden stairs. She groaned again, it seemed like the only way she could communicate right now, hoping that the thumping would stop. It only got worse, of course. Her mother pushed open the wooden door, its hinges creaking, the sound ripping through her head like razers.

"Sandra Pilkington..." her mother started, the fact that she had used Sandra instead of Sandy, as she normally did, already enough of a sign that she was in trouble, but using her full name? Sandra groaned again, wishing she was a real mage now, so she could just make her mother disappear for a while. "Come on, its time to get up, you wouldn't want to miss the farewell ceremony, now would you?" She said with an angry undertone, quickly maneuvering through the messy room towards the window.

If her brain had cooperated a bit better, she probably would've realized what her mother was up to before it happened, but as it was, she didn't. With one firm pull her mother opened the curtains, sending the bright morning light all over the room. The pain searing through her mind, Sandra quickly buried her head under her pillow. Oh what on earth had happened last night? The last thing she remembered was Fen taking out his better drinks, after that it wet all fuzzy.

"I expect you downstairs for breakfast in fifteen minutes." her mother said with that motherly type of sternness that no son or daughter would ever be able to oppose. The wardrums started up again, as her mother left her alone with her pain. It took her a few minutes to scrounge up the courage to lift the pillow off her head, the bright light taunting her. It was a true miracle that she managed to drag herself out of bed, her body feeling like a wet bag of sand and get dressed, before going downstairs.

The breakfast table was covered with all kinds of sweets, her mother had clearly planned for a festive goodbye. But in her current mood, nothing looked appetizing to Sandra. Both her parents were already there, casually eating, when she sat down in the chair across from them and let her head rest on her arm. "Come one Sandra, a man at night, a man in the morning." her mother said while she was buttering some toast with perhaps a bit too much zeal. The saying was something that came into existence after her father would sometimes come home drunk and then complained about it in the morning. "Come on sweetheart, give the girl a break." Her father said, trying to disarm the situation. Which was precisely the ammunition her mother had been waiting for. She threw down the knife she was holding on the table, the clattering ringing through Sandra's mind like a raging bull, as she raised her voice. "A break? A break?!? She came home well after closing time, drunk to the point of passing out, carried by... by... that boy!" A red flash came over her mother's face as she got angry. "God only knows what he might have done to her." she had heard of the rumors surrounding Fenrem, most not really that flattering. "Come now dear, Sandra and Fen have been friends for years, you really think he'd do such a thing?" her father said with a relaxed voice, clearly not to fussed about the situation. "Besides, I'm sure Sandra would be able to take him on, even in such a state." he added with a wink to Sandra, who couldn't help but smile mildly.

Her parents squabbled for a bit longer, her mother wishing she'd cut ties with Fen while her father thought things were just fine. Sandra was in no shape to enter the debate, not that it mattered, this was one of those debates about the well being of their child... she had no say in this.

Finally the argument quieted down and her mother got up to do some chores, but it was mostly just to cool down. Her father got up as well, walking past her and placing a little pill on the table next to Sandra. "Don't tell your mother, okay?" he said as he went on his way. It took Sandra some time to recognize the pill, but soon it dawned on her that it was one of their fabled "hangover-b-gone" pills... not that it really worked that way, the only thing it did was lessen the pain somewhat like a painkiller. But it was something, so she eagerly gulped down the little pill, wishing it would work a bit faster.

The rest of the morning went on pretty normal, her mother turned back to the overprotective person she normally was, constantly cooing about her little girl leaving the house and asking her a hundred times if she packed enough underwear. Her father just standing by and smiling, it would be a while before a scene like this would return to house Pilkington.

The family went to the meeting place, where the other travelers and family would see them off. Most of them were already there. "Now remember to put on fresh underwear every day!" her mother yelled a little to loud for Sandra's comfort, as she was suddenly locked in a motherly hug which knew no escape. But just for today, she decided not to struggle. "Be safe, okay? Just run when there's trouble and get help." Her father said, as he took the second hug. With somewhat difficulty Sandra dislodged herself from her parents. "I'll be fine, and I'll be back before you'll even miss me" Giving them both one last hug before joining the other children.

It surprised her to see the entire town here, and a creeping suspicion crept up the back of her mind. Oh no, please no fanfare, no fanfare, no fanfa- The fanfare started playing, causing the poor girl to groan as her head started to throb once again. Never had she been so happy to go into the relative silence of the forest. Sandra sauntered a little behind the group, not really feeling ready to bombard her poor brain with their talks yet.

She looked around the others, surprised to see Lydia in pants. Perhaps she was finally taking to her example, she thought with a smirk. But above all, she was looking for Fenrem, she needed to have the blanks filled in about last night. Her mother had never been so angry about her being around Fen, so what on earth had he done to make her that mad?

{Renaldo - Back again}

Renaldo showed up a few minutes late, his mother fussing over him before letting him leave being the cause. He quickly gathered information on what was going on, and looked around, thinking about who'd be best to team up with on the first stretch of their adventure. He tapped his chin, thinking on it for a moment before smacking his forehead with his palm. Aldnari, duh. He made his way over to the Ranger and tapped Aldnari on the shoulder.

"Hey there, mind if I join you? A Ranger and a Hunter would be near undetectable scouting through the forest." He said, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He turned his attention to Lydia and William "Now, what Aldnari forgot to tell you is that the forest isn't exactly safe either. Lots of not-so-nice beasts that'll be looking for a snack." He said in a serious tone. "Travelling through the forest isn't fully safe, even for those who know it pretty well. Do you still wanna take the road off the beaten path?" He asked them, his face not showing any sign of mocking or degredation.

-Malkizid Soluvan-

This dude. Talks. A lot. Malkizid did well to hide his frown with a cheerful smile, didn't want to make an enemy before this little expedition had even begun. Despite it all, there was the sinking suspicion that not all was at it seemed. Whispers were common in the bar scene, and even more common out back where nobody was usually watching or listening. Except there was always someone who overheard.
Shaking those thoughts from his head and focusing on the conversation at hand, Mal tuned in just in time to hear about the magic part followed by asking his name.

After clearing his throat he spoke up with a steady tone, "Malkizid Soluvan. Chef and soldier by all appearances, though I admit my skill with the blade isn't top performance compared to the more combat orientated children in the group. As for magic?" Whispering something under his breathe, Mal raised his right hand with palm to the sky and a brilliant red flame leaped into existence. It was steady and controlled from years of practice and use in the kitchen. "My family doesn't know much magic but what we do know we have mastered."

Dousing the flame with a mental flick he perked up to the other boy. "How long do you think it'll be before we get this show on the road?" From the corner of his eye, Mal saw something... rather, someone, he liked being chatted up. Hiding his growing frown was going to be a problem he could tell.

Gregory stayed behind, knife at the ready for whatever Alexandra had run off to fight. Though he was fit, he did not have nearly as much experience hunting as she did and so watched tensely as the young girl ran into the bush to find whatever had made the noise. Cautiously, he looked over to Orcus to see how the Spook was preparing himself, if at all, for what would return from the forest. Gregory licked his lips slightly in anticipation, hoping that it would be a decently sized animal that he could use for pelt and hide trading.

Orcus stared after her, a more expressive man may have raised an eyebrow, his merely tic'ed. Come on. He said to Gregory as he strode after her, pushing easily through the brambles and bushes, the runes in his clothes repelling thorns and brambles to stop them catching. Some of the best magical work he'd had imported, good equipment didn't come cheap and you really wanted good equipment in his line of work. She's a woodcutter, yes? I imagine she knows what she's getting into here, she'd probably recognise a wolf or a bear call or some other dangerous animal. Or maybe just be able to deal with whatever she's running at. Although, I'm wondering what she expects us to do with it once she kills it. I don't think it would be worth dragging an animal carcass till nightfall. His staff pushed branches and the like out of his way as he followed after her disappearing figure.

Alexander_Getting ready to head out

Alexander was happy to see Emeline come to speak to Him ,however the young man she was speaking to seemed off, He had this air of negativity and peculiarity around him, Alexander honestly didn't like him, . . . but after coming to a realization that Emeline wanted him and Maz? Malls? he decided to stick with Soluvan, it was easier to remember, this was shaping up to be a great adventure. He saw where Alexandra had gone, "errg that's not a good path I explored A-lot out here as a kid whenever I had any free time, so I know a little about the paths and whatnot, Alex scratched his head,"is this everyone? or is it just you me, and Soluvan?"

Alex was ready to go, maybe find some new stuff to smith with, hang with Soluvan and Emeline an whoever else. He had been dreaming of this day and now it was finally here
