I am probably alone on this, but unless it's a fight scene, I don't mind the the shitty art. The rough quality art always seemed to have a more personal feel. It's the look of something raw, straight from the artist's hands. The character of the artist is imbued in the actual work.

That said, I liked this chapter. It had its own voice and I couldn't help but feel invested only five pages in.

It has nothing to do with a personal feel, if it did, the art wouldn't be getting changed and fixed for the volume releases. Chapters 184-200 and 220-230 had similarly sketchy art and it was always fixed for the tanks. It's just bad art, it's not meant to emphasize the story.

And in Togashi's case, his art is always something "raw, straight from the artist's hands", since he is one of Jump's few artists not to have an assistant. Kishimoto had 4 last time I read, for the sake of comparision.

Great chapter dialogue wise, but yeah, art was bad.


This has happened before, Togashi is either ill or losing motivation. I'm expecting a hiatus announcement in chapter 340.

It's hilarious how sketchy and lazy some of the Chimera Ant Arc drawings were upon first release.

I have to agree with Rival. That there reeks much more of laziness than personal touch. It looks like he just couldn't be bothered to draw any details and tidy up the lines a bit. If you want personal feel and character, uninked sketches are the way to go. Much character is lost in the inking process, especially if the inking is rather lazy.

That said, weekly shounens in general aren't the best source of art, so I don't care too much either, as long as the story is getting moved along.

It's an aggregator site, it doesn't matter. Mangafox never did any scanlations, they simply collected what others' produced. What matters is, if there are people willing to scanlate them and there will always be some people who are willing to. Especially in China and Russia and then you can use those releases for second hand translations, if push comes to shove.

The speed and quality of releases might take a drop though, hell it already did. Naruto and HxH chapters released after mangastream droped them had far poorer translations and cleaning.

I didn't mean to imply Togashi wasn't being lazy.

I just said I didn't mind the sketchy art. More specifically, I kinda like it for these wordy parts. Rough sketches and a well-written story immerses me more than stunning art would because I have to actually put my own imagination forth. I have to invest more of myself into the story.

Again, this is not to say I want sketchy shit all the time, but I felt like it worked for this particular chapter exceptionally well.

Also the Gyro chapter and a few others.

...So let me get this straight. You're saying that a group full of highly skilled mages (Two of which are Guild Masters. And one of which is dead...) couldn't sense (or even see) the hair nearing that little girl? I mean, it was even shown that her father was standing right behind her! You would think that they would get a hint when Flare pointed in their direction and Lucy looking at them and yelling the little girl's name...

And despite this, they were still able to sense that Lucy's spell was deactivated by an outside presence... While no one else could (besides the old guy. Cause he's awesome)... I hope I'm not being too critical but I just thought this was a stupid way to make Lucy lose.
