Give it a little time to just make sure it dries out again. The alcohol won't react with anything in the keyboard but whatever is causing it to stick might if it's back to being a liquid.

Uh, I have a different answer, in case it's not too late...

Pouring any liquid into a keyboard is bad if you don't know what you're doing. Even if it's Isopropyl. What I would recommend is to (carefully) take the keyboard apart from the back and separate the components (don't take all the components off the keyboard, just what it takes to clean it). Make sure you remember which screws go where. Usually the keyboard itself (the part that transmits your keystrokes) is a metal-cased circuit board with rubber switches on it. It has a very thin ribbon cable that connects to an inverter. If liquid gets into the holes in the metal board or the inverter it could short it out, even if it's just rubbing alcohol. Use a Q-tip with the rubbing alcohol to clean off any sticky spots around the board, and try to get behind the volume switches. You can use tap water to clean as long as the water doesn't come into contact with any parts of the board or circuitry.

If you're very careful, you can eliminate any risk of destroying your keyboard.

Octo is still around! Sweet!

Also, yeah, Isopropyl should be pretty safe. RuffDraft has a pretty good method too, mind. Alternatively, if it's only just beneath the keys that are sticking you can usually just pop the keys off and dab around like that. This won't work on laptop style keyboards though.

I've had to replace laptop keyboards before. My friend's wife spilled juice or soda or something on it and she thought to dry the keyboard with a hair dryer and melted the keys. They bought a new keyboard from the manufacturer and called me over to help them swap it out. It was an easy task, but there were a lot of screws of varying lengths that I had to keep track of. Still, I was baffled by their thought process-- hot air dryer to dry a keyboard made of plastic. Still they gave me like $20 for helping them, which I had said I would do for free, but the wife insisted.

Most laptops are screwed as soon as you get liquid on them anyway. But for a real keyboard you can get away with a hairdryer on low at a proper distance.

My sister has ruined two--or is it three?--MacBooks by either spilling stuff on them or dropping them. She really shouldn't be trusted with a personal computer.

I don't remember ever spilling a liquid on my keyboard or PC. I had a candle on my desk once which had a hole melt through the side and sent magma pouring along my desk onto my hands and keyboard, but that wasn't a big deal. I waited for it to cool off, popped a couple keys out and it all peeled off in large chunks. If anything, it cleaned my keyboard, haha.

Cleaning a keyboard is very easy, but in this case Octo is claiming she can't disassemble it. Offering her advice like that is a bad idea. I mean no offense.

http://www.logitech.com/keyboards/keybo ... vices/7305 This is it.

The back of it DOES have screws, but I don't have a screwdriver of the appropriate size to make it work. My phillips head is just too wide. I was a little scared to the alcohol thing, so I've mostly just been staring at it on my desk since it was recommended.

Hey, are they any malware-free WMA-to-mp3 converters out there I can download? I need it so I can record a rap to a set of WMA-filed songs.

@Spooky: If you have any neighbors, you can probably ask them if they have a screwdriver that small. Once you have that, you can get behind the keys and try to fix it.

@Maru: Yeah, I've used a couple before. Lemme see if I can't find one.

I was pointed in this threads direction by another member, I was wondering if anybody knows how to hack a facebook/skype? Initially I wasn't going to ask due to it sounding a bit sketchy, but if someone could help me out it'd honestly be much obliged.

Your options are:
Figure out the password
Brute force the password
Keylog the password

Either way you're looking at hours and hours of work unless you get lucky.

If you're trying to log into someone else's account, I doubt anyone here is really willing to help you, considering that's a felony. If it is your own account, there are means in Facebook to recover your own password, and if you can't use those, you should contact Tech Support for Facebook.

RuffDraft is military, he should know. He'll be sent to jail your sorry hacking arse.

I'm curious as to what you'd want to find so much. It doesn't really seem worth it, regardless of whatever it may be. If you have doubts about what someone said or did with another person and they can't be up front about it, you'll never really know. It's kind of hard to read people, even when it layed out in "black and white" for you. I've had some serious people issues, I swear some/most people are insane.

Ok here's a computer question for ya....

What do I do about the ants coming out of my laptop? No joke.

I did a bit of research and the ants might be trying to make a nest in it.

Someone at this DSLreport website recommends putting the laptop in a hermetically sealed bag.
Should I try that?

My first piece of advice would be to keep your electronics clean and away from food/water. Sorry to come off as rude, but I see no reason for ants to want to nest inside, other than the fact that there's probably food stuck under your keyboard.

That sounds like a decent idea, but I'd be concerned about ant corpses laying in my laptop. I'd suggest taking apart whatever component they're crawling from, but laptops are tricky. A lot are made from cheap plastics which you could take apart, but would risk permanently damaging. Anything that could potentially kill them poses a risk to damaging your laptop, including sealing it in a bag, due to the fact that it could easily overheat.

From what I can tell the ants want to be in there because it's warm, but my family is convinced that they were in there because of where I previously left my laptop.

Either way I have some cleaning to do.

Thanks for your help.

I'm assuming he'd seal it in a bag while it's off and just leave it for a week, rather than try running it while it's still in the bag lol

Once again, I'm fearing for the state of my laptop. For about two weeks now and slightly more frequently I'm getting this frightening blue screen of death. To be precise, a "kernel stack inpage error". This only comes up when Windows Explorer freezes up at entirely random times, and even then only sometimes. I don't like crossing my fingers and hoping that the next crash doesn't fuck over the entire laptop. I use Windows Vista Home Basic and my RAM is 3GB, if that helps somehow.

Long story short: what is it, what causes it, and how can I ensure it doesn't happen again?
