It didn't happen until the blackout though, which says they're just responding to corporate pressure albeit in our favor this time.

This picture seemed like an accurate representation of how your average Congressman informs himself of the current news.

My First Thought

Then I realized it's already been refused in the US, at least.

It seems these acronyms are getting more and more far flung with every iteration.

Would Smith just shut up? I mean seriously, if you hate the internet, good for you, but don't make it so nobody can use it.

Resurrecting this topic with current news and topics.

http://www.copyrightinformation.org/node/705

And hell's army marches onward today. For those not aware through a private agreement between hollywood and the major ISPs starting within the next few months your ISPs will in fact be monitoring your traffic watching for copyrighted material. The organization created by this collusion is the Center for Copyright Information and while taking on a gentle face, saying that they want to educate violators about copyright instead of punishing them, while choking their internet connection to nothing. Of course in the same breath they list half-truths and full lies and on their website.

http://www.copyrightinformation.org/facts

Most notably is that they keep up the myth about piracy costing obscene amounts of money and thus jobs (>implying that money would go job creation even if it existed). However a recent information coming from France, which has the strictest measures in place regarding copyright, shows that even with piracy down in that country sales are not going up with any significant effect.

https://torrentfreak.com/french-three-s ... es-120330/

And so let's shift again to the broader topics with this video I came across recently which seems like a realistic view of what we can expect in the future.

That ISP monitoing agreement is nasty, good thing(for me) that it's limited to the USA.

Over here, whether or not ACTA will get passed is still the big deal. And there are signs it might not get ratified.

For now at least.

Though there's already precedent of the USA extraditing people from other nations over copyright infringement.

The MegaUpload case is different from PIPA. MegaUpload is being charged with something like $500,000,000 worth of lost revenue to copyright holders. Apparently they are also being charged with wire fraud now, after it was discovered that in conversations with other companies that requested it, MegaUpload told them their content had been removed from the site when in fact it had not. Additionally, there's a user ("VV") that uploaded nearly 17,000 files and generated more than 34 million page views over the course of two years; many requests were made to have some of his content removed on copyright grounds, but records show that none of them were. They paid VV about $3,400 through their rewards program.

My point is, even if there was no SOPA or PIPA, those copyright violations would still stand.

Ah, does this mean I'm going to need more than just peerblock?

There are some people who are preparing to have to tunnel all their traffic to offshore VPNs so the ISPs can't know what the hell they're connected to.

Also get ready for the next round guys. (I have no idea what number this round should be.)

Peerblock is absolutely useless.

There is no legitimate way to verify a "bad" peer, a company can use any given ISP as a point of entry, and can appear to be a normal customer joining a swarm. You're just getting a placebo with peerblock.

Watch this:

And/or read this thread(the first 2 replies anyway):
https://bitcointalk.org/?topic=979.0

Here are 4 options(Anomos is dead) to help your security while torrenting:
http://torrentfreak.com/5-ways-to-downl ... ly-100819/

VPN is the best, but trustworthy services cost. Still, unless you pull lulzsec level illegal stunts, if you're just worried about pirating media for personal use, VPN will keep you secure.

If however you want to keep using peerblock, then I have a car accident preventing rock to sell you for 10,000$. A bit costly, but I haven't had any car accident since I got it, so it must work.
