Right around MW3, Skyrim, and Sonic Generations. Who ever did it played smart.

Quote:
This week Valve Corporation head Gabe Newell has announced that the gaming hub Steam has suffered an attack on their forums which may well have put credit card numbers and other users personal information at risk. The attack apparently went down this Sunday and Valve is currently letting everyone who had any personal info listed at Steam to watch their credit card activity in the near future for possible fraudulent activity. Here after the attack the Steam Forums are closed and will remain closed for the time being while Steam itself will remain operating as normal.

Note that the attack itself was not necessarily aimed at the credit card information and other personal bits of users at Steam, but that the larger attack did have the potential to access said information. A note from Newell read something to the effect of don’t be scared, but also keep your guard..... (more on link)

Inb4 some youtube video featuring "anonymous" claiming they did it, while offering no proof.

Anonymous is way too easy to blame this on.

Anonymous is way too easy to blame this on.

But that's what I mean. They enjoy being blamed for things so I expect some anon will say they did it, even if that wasn't the case.

Steam pulls some HUGE numbers and has quite a few card numbers on file. But yeah Anonymous would do something that would draw attention to them immediately like leaving a calling card of sorts on the forum's front page.

Steam makes huge revenue.

They have a 70% share of the digital distribution market for video games.

I'd have to disagree Soul. Steam is pretty fuckin' big. Most PC gamers use Steam.

Except most anons like steam, a lot. Then again the nature of anonymous is that if you anonymously claim to be one you are one.

No reason for the 'group' anonymous to be behind this, yet at the same time not knowing who did it makes them anonymous.

Soooo, we can settle for people jealous of Steam's progessive?

Though, I'm curious when game sellers would start going online to sell games.

This is so funny, Gabe was kind of boastful when he announced some of the Steam security shit and stuff at one presentation about some security program and shit.

Well played hacker, well played.
