WarhammerFantasy RP (IC) Chapter 1 Act 1 "A Noxious Stumble"

Postby Archrival » Sat Nov 05, 2011 9:56 am

The year is 2510IC so it is 5 years since the Skaven tried to take over Nuln, though general consensus is that is was beastmen that tried to destroy Nuln, only those who actually fought the skaven know the true foe and those that try to claim this are silenced or imprisoned for the good of the Empire. Nuln was no newcomer to diseases and plagues, it had survived many even if the people had lost hundreds during the process. Yet the city still stood and the people still went about their daily lives.

It was summer in Nuln, a pleasant breeze wafted through the city streets as the sun shines down creating a very warm atmosphere. This however was in stark contrast to how the city actually looked, piles of bodies were being created by The Watch who were all wearing stuff to cover their face from the smell, the amount of beggars and vagabond was in greater number than ever previously seen making the already crowded city even more crowded than it was, the Nobles and Merchants however weren't at all affected as their areas of the city were closely guarded from riff raff and street dwellers and those that did have to have business in the shantytown traversed it by carriage and let their servants or coachmen do the menial tasks.

At the Blind Pig however business was running as normal, people were sat in the bar booths either having a drink or enjoying a meal as it was midday. Bar girls jostled to-and-fro, serving drinks, meals and getting the occasional slap on the arse. The place was filled with variety of races and nationalities, mostly human but there was a bunch of dwarves in one booth, kislevites with a ogre in another and other various people from all over. Outside the Blind Pig in the Shantytown's main square it was market day, even in the midst of the corpse piles and homeless beggars people still made their business selling all manner of things. A very important looking merchant coach was nearby and unknowingly had just been robbed by an elf thief.

And then I rammed my trusty pickaxe straight through that mountain trolls eye. Emilia said in a loud voice and was met with laughs and cheers from the dwarfs she had sat down with.
Then we burned it and took the treasure it was hoarding. Kept us eating for a month that did. She quaffed down her ale and sat back scanning the bar for anything interesting to do. so far only the ogre looked vaguely interesting. She had always taken a shine to Ogre's. She did'nt know why. So anyone up for another round? My treat. She had just been paid from a small spellunking job and was keen on making some friends in this new town and the best way to do that was with ale.

Mieke had just walked in, covered in goblin and orc blood. She had found a small party of them not far from the city. Hearing the woman's offer, she smiled and leaned over. "I'll take you up on that offer." She said, being loud enough to be heard by the lady. She sat in one of the empty chairs with the dwarves. "Mieke Falkenheim. And you?" she smiled, trying to be heard over the noise of the pub. She had just finished a job for someone and had been told to meet them at this pub. She was half-hoping they were late.

Alassë - The Blind Pig

Nuln was a bleeding scab that could never fully heal due to the constant picking of disease and decay. The elf waded swiftly through the marketplace, passing crowds of merchants, farmers, peasants, guards and the ominous piles of bodies as she darted towards the entrance of The Blind Pig. She had just managed to pick her way through the contents of a merchant’s trunk, which had been left unguarded for but a few minutes. She grinned as she disappeared within the waves of people (Most likely leaving the Merchant angry and bewildered).

In the blink of an eye she had made it past the threshold. As she entered she was welcomed with the loud, boisterous atmosphere that you would expect from a shantytown pub. Her short hooded form seemed to glided softly across the floor, adding not a sound to the already noisy pub. As she past the many jolly patrons her golden eyes flickered upon them beneath her veil-like locks. She raised a curious eyebrow as she past the group of dwarves, who seemed to have been regaled by the tale of a red haired, pick axe wielding strumpet (Though Alassë reckoned it was probably the second round of ale that had sparked their spirits more than the boasting). She frowned slightly at the sight of the filthy looking, blood covered wench, who had just joined the dwarves at their table. Her eyes sparkled as she glanced at the towering Ogre. Most Ogres’ around these parts were Mercenaries. She wondered what its story was. Alassë finished surveying the contents of the Blind Pig and stopped beside an empty booth, sat down and rested her bow beside her. She kept her hands hidden beneath her cloak as she held the bag of items she had recently stolen from the Coach.

“Waiting on you, Fzoul...” she muttered with a sigh as a barmaid came to take her order.

“I’ll have two Ales, please” she said as she kept her head down. As soon as the barmaid left she began to ponder the uses Fzoul could have for the items within the bag. She didn’t know much about him, but she knew he was at least the most trustworthy person she had met since her friend died. People were dropping like flies and business was slow now that she was alone. Fzoul had needed her services and possibility a partnership of sorts could be formed from this venture. The idea of thieving on a grander scale, without the constant worry of being caught kept Alassë’s spirit up. She wondered what tricks the vagabond had up his sleeves and whether he’d reveal any. She sighed once more and brushed her veil of hair away from her eyes so she could check to see if her friend had arrived yet.

Fzoul - The blind pig

Every shadowmancer had a specialty, great or unrefined as they may be in some cases. Fzoul was no exception to that. He was gifted with illusions that played with every sense a creature could have and made wonderful use of it constantly by shifting his body to look like something less suspicious. It was that same gift he had put to use in keeping Alassë from the stockades when the guards caught wise.

Her spot at the back of the Tavern was wise though the booth itself was not empty. While the young thief was busy looking around the tavern and the contents of that pouch, Fzoul has simply appeared. No flashy entrance, no grand speech ready. Just 'there' suddenly. His robes were very dark but tattered and accompanied by a long scarf that concealed all but his eyes, his staff, disguised as a walking stick, lay gently on his lap. There was a sword on him somewhere but it was impossible to tell where.

Fzoul gave a nod to his companion when she finally became aware of him and extended his open palm, like always it was his job to make sure the items value was worth the effort of selling.

Alassë - The Blind Pig

Suddenly, a hand stretched across the table towards her. She lifted her golden curls to see the shabby robed figure she had come to know as Fzoul. Alassë returned the nod with a grin as she quickly passed the bag to him. She knew he was mysterious, but it still irked her that he was able to magically appear like that under her very nose.
"Took ya long enough" she scoffed as she sat back in her chair.

"I got exactly what you asked for and by the way, you're paying for the first round of Ale"
She lifted her feet onto the table and smirked while waiting for him to value the items.

-Fzoul-

Taking the bag with great interest and care he placed the contents beside him for the moment while reaching into his robes with the roll of his eyes. The faint jingle of coin was heard as the mage pulled out 2 gold coins, gently placing them in Alassë's hand. "That should cover atleast 1, if not more." The mages tone was sincere, and caring. He didn't like to admit it but he'd grown rather fond of the company from the young thief, it had also kept him indoors. The mutual partnership was enjoyable overall.

Back to business at hand. He thought somberly, lifting the bland sack just under the table so only he and his partner could see it. What was inside nearly caused him to lose the contents of his stomach.
Keeping enough wits about him to close the bag he turned with a pale face to his companion. "What we have... are cultists goods.." He whispered softly. Quickly tucking the bag inside of his robes, the mage's eyes shifted nervously.
Most artifacts that held the stench of Nurgle gave off a sickly green aura, but this one was different. Clearly nurgle affiliated but much, MUCH, worse. They had stolen a very powerful and very important relic from a chaos worshiper and they would come find it. They always did.

-Gol'grin Gorebelly-

The sound of thinlings always reminded the ogre of little birds, tweeting sounds that lacked any strength, even when they 'shouted' the thinlings couldn't match up to an ogre. Still they made good feasts, in more ways than one, so Gol'grin was content to sit amongst them while he waited for a new employer, that was if any of those thinlings were brave enough to walk up to them and give an offering to the ogre.

Gold and the promise of gems could only gather so much attention from an ogre, most merely thought of him as a simpleton, give him some shiny coins and he'll follow them like a puppy... those who made one too many jokes would find themselves on the wrong side of the ogre's gutplate. The thought of his reputation as a maneater had become known within the tavern, as was his appetite for that matter.
No, to get Gol'grin's attention one would have to offer a small feast, the promise of fame and more importantly the promise of a good fight. Something that would offer a challenge.

It was a small miracle that the tavern itself could hold the ogre's girth, had the floorboards been made of wood, the ogre would've merely crashed through them due to his weight and while he had to duck his head from time to time with the lower beams, the ogre could 'fit' inside... if only barely. But for the tavern keeper there was the pay-off that few dared to make trouble in his place, only a fool would dare disturb a hungry ogre's feast, not too mention the fact that the ogre did attract the more curious to the tavern.
Another odd truth was that Gol'grin always paid his debts, while the ogre stayed to eat much of the tavern keeper's stock, the owner never had to fear that they'd run out as they could afford most of what was devoured by the ogre's nigh endless hunger. If only his dining manners were... more civilized when eating.

- Husker Duganson -

It really wasn't his day, not much money was made and he was starting to run low. Of course, the fact that this water they called ale here couldn't get a bunny drunk if its life depended on it didn't help either. And on top of all of that, this heat was murdering him. This place wasn't what his blood was used to.

"Another ale please." he grumbled at a waitress, placing the mug of his previous one on the serving tray she was carrying. This was what? His third already? Perhaps he should just ask for the full keg, that should at least get him tipsy. But that would most likely cost him the remainder of his money.

He took the time to take a look around the tavern, as he didn't have much else to do 'cept wait for his drink. Seemed like the regular rabble, with the exception of the Ogre, who stood out like a sore thumb. People didn't seem overly worried about him, except for those close around him, so he was probably one of the regulars. Other than that was a rather filthy looking girl just walking in, who seemed to be covered in blood. It was a miracle Sasha hadn't mistaken her for food and mauled her. Further there was a rather loud girl at the bar, boasting about her latest killings and was offering drinks. Perhaps he should take her up on that, it would save a few pennies. Last but not least, there was a rather ominous looking elf in the back of the tavern, obviously there for business he wanted no part in.

Husker turned back to his own table, just missing Fzoul's odd entrance, and sighed. He needed something that paid well and he needed that soon, feeding himself was already a rather costly project, let alone feeding himself and a bear. Poor Sasha, she must be burning up out there, but maybe that pity was better directed at anyone who was unfortunately to get too close to a grumpy bear.

Emilia looked at the girl that had taken up her offer and smiled. Ah some more company. My name is Emilia. She scanned Mieke from top to bottom. I see you've been working with goblins. Night goblins if my nose is correct. I can tell because they have a distinct fungal smell and your lower shirt is stained with typical goblin blood. Emilia sat back in her chair and gave the girl a interested look. So tell me what wo... Holy Crap who cut the cheese! She blurted out as a quick waft of the most foul stench washed over her. She looked around to see who did it. (must have been the ogre.) she thought to herself. Anyways tell me What work do you do?

Alassë -

Her eyes sparkled greedily as the coins were placed into her thieving grasp. She tucked the coins safely in her pocket, but when she looked back at her companion she noticed the sudden change in his expression. Fzoul seemed to have been repulsed by whatever was in the bag. She watched as he struggled to eventually close it and then her ears perked up at the mention of Cultist Goods.

She slyly glanced back at the rest of the tavern out of the corner of her eye and then turned back to the worried wizard.

"Shit..." said Alassë under her breath.
"What do we do now?" she muttered as she eased in a bit closer to him.

It was one thing to steal a few coins or a gem from a merchant, but another to steal from cultists, especially agents of Chaos.

"Ah, Emilia." she smiled. "A beautiful name for a beautiful lady." She listened to her talking about goblins and had to correct her, "Goblins and orcs. Not a nice group but I wasn't alone. After I get my pay I pay the guys I hired. Keeps my ass alive." she laughed. "I'm a mercenary. Anything you want me to kill?" she smiled, more like smirked, as she looked over the woman again.

-Fzoul-

Casually holding his cane a little tighter, he looked around the bar briefly before whispering back to his companion. "The same thing we have always done. Hide in the shadows, we must not let this... thing," Motioning to the bag he had placed in his robes, "Be allowed to fulfill whatever purpose it was intended for. It could mean oblivion for everyone in this town, maybe even this country."

With a wave of his hand, Alassë's form changed. Subtly so as not to cause any suspicion. Colors faded to different colors, skin tone and complexion altered and even her height changed. She would not feel the changes but instead the familiar tingle of magic being woven on her, so long as Alassë didn't blow her cover they would be safe.
Fzoul on the other hand simply faded back to whence he'd been before Alassë had sat down. "Nothing has changed from earlier, we got the goods and we stay low... If the cultists come we will need to leave in a rush."

Alassë -

The quick, yet subtle wisps of magic engulfed her entire being. She felt that same tingling sensation she had before when magic was cast upon her. Although she was getting used to it, she still felt slightly unnerved by its profound affects. The git disappeared before her eyes as the spell was completed.

"All right. I hope you're watching my back while I sit here" she muttered irritably as she went back to twiddled her tumbs.

The barmaid who had taken her ordered was looking around for her. In order not to arouse more confusion she dropped a few coins on the barmaid's tray, "Must've run off, I'll purchase those fine Ales in her stead if you don't mind"

Alassë noticed the giant bald, bearded oaf sitting hunched over an empty flagon of Ale. She thought for a moment about sending over the second flagon she had ordered, but then remembered what Fzoul said about being subtle and decided against it.

She hoped that the codger was wrong and that nothing more would come of this, but in a place like Nuln, danger was lurking everywhere and they just walked right into it.
