Eh, Saints Row already surpassed this series if you ask me... I used to play GTA because it was fun and silly, not about realistic driving or even a good storyline.

I had tons of fun abusing the physics engine in GTA 4. I feel like Saint's Row tries to be goofy for the sake of goofy but the writing of the series is not even close to GTA or Rockstar in actual humor. I'm wondering when Rockstar will release this because it could be six months or sixteen months knowing Rockstar.

I dunno, I reckon GTA's got a long way to go before it outdoes San Andreas as its best game. I'll still pounce on this one, regardless.

I think that every entry in GTA is great in it's own way.
Gta 3: Best use of the sandbox engine.
Gta VC: Best atmosphere and soundtrack.
Gta SA: Best gameplay and main villian.
Gta 4: Best story and main character.

Yeah, Vice City really did have the best setting.

Since GTA4 reimagined Liberty City, GTA5 should take us back to Vice. And it'll be epic.

I get the feeling they are shooting for a modern setting again and I don't feel like a Miami rip off is quite right for a modern setting. I just wonder if it'll be set in a different continuity or share one with GTA4.

Going back to San Andreas, makes me wonder if CJ will still appear or might be one of the multiple characters within the story being as playable. I heard Tony Verselli (idk how to spell his last name) ish gonna be in it too since the voice narrator sounds just like him too. So Tony will be in the main story. We might not see the rest of SA yet, maybe they'll be showing it in their future trailers of San Fierro, Los Santos, and that Las Vegas themed city too. Maybe also Area 51.

I'm hoping it's just a more realistic Los Santos and maybe some surrounding countryside, nothing was worse in San Andreas than driving through the country side for 10 minutes.

Well, I half agree with this. The physics in GTA4 are hilarious, and it was actually more satisfying to drive those cars than the ones in SR.

But... SR2 is still pretty good. The character creator is pretty amazing, and The Boss at least is a character who you could see doing all these random acts of violence. The recent trend of GTA protagonists who are decent guys and just keep getting swept up in shit makes no sense when you're still killing dozens of people every mission and running down civilians. This is why the writing of GTA can't really be praised. Most people would be hard pressed to describe what the actual 'plot' of GTA4 is.

This is also why Tommy Vercetti was the best, because he was just a sociopath.

I dread the return of OG Loc.

I wouldn't say any of the protagonists have been good guys. CJ was tied to the mafia in Liberty City, Niko was a human trafficker, Johnny was in the biker gang at the start of TLaD, Luis was a gang member and was still and errand boy for criminals before Gay Tony.

Niko was still made out to be a sympathetic character though. A down on his luck immigrant for whom the American Dream turned out to be false, and was forced back into crime after barely escaping with his life when all his friends were betrayed and murdered. Severely traumatized, always helping Roman, good for that one girl at the end of the game, etc.

And then outside all the typical cutscene exposition that establishes all that, you're mowing down civilians in between missions and mowing down gangsters by the dozens in missions.

It's just a disconnect that's hard to reconcile. At least if you're trying to care. I don't really bother with that in GTA.
