Well, try to look at things from his point of veiw. It could be that he thought people were so god damn afraid of me that they dared not rebel for fear of being destroyed. So perhaps if you took a stand in his main place, you could "free" everyone and prove to them they have the right to choose and need not to be afraid of the big mean Blood Lord.

Its stupid as hell, but that's really the only kind of logic I can see here for him.
