It was a Special Forces team. Navy Seals I think it was reported as. They entered a mansion where he was staying in, in an affluent suburb in Pakistan, and engaged in a firefight with him and killed him. He had at least 1 shot to the head and his body was able to be recovered as proof.

Makes it better that it wasn't a drone that took him out too.

Yeah BeeAre, patriotism is going to spike and there will probably be a rally around President Obama, especially his leadership ratings.

And Senel.. I did actually have a thought about that while the news was breaking, about the people who are dying today that will miss this information.

Wasn't Al Qaeda's last threat of nuclear war about a week ago or so? Didn't it say that if he was killed they would unleash nuclear hell on the west?

I hadn't heard anything about it. Besides, they don't have that capability.

If it was actually credible, it would've stayed completely under wraps or been widely reported. Otherwise if it was barely reported at all then that means people knew it was just an empty boast they were throwing out in an attempt to still try to strike fear into the hearts of Westerners, and that there was no real need to report it then for a multitude of reasons.

wow. Neat. I actually think the timing isn't odd. The reason is that there is no significance to this date. There is now, but it was simply just a day. The crazy tea party people (No that I am calling all of the tea baggers crazy, just some of the more extreme ones are) are super crazy now, spitting venom.

It is very much like the hydra having its head cut off. I actually really wonder how much direct input he had in operations, because he seemed more like a figurehead than anything. It won't really change anything. They might be in chaos for a few days, but someone else will take over. In fact, there was probably someone already lined up in case something happened to Osama. And now they're going to retaliate.

Zeph: I love that image. It popped up all over the place last night. I think it's great.

As for the significance of the date, May 1st is also the date Hitler's death was confirmed. However, unlike Hitler's death, which ended a war, Osama's death won't end anything but a metaphorical and psychological war to get the man behind 9/11.

As more details come out, it's starting to look more like an assassination attempt. Which I can't agree with. I wish they had captured him, because murdering someone isn't justice.
