The Art section has had a Challenge Yourself contest on and off since...well, time immemorial.

Would the denizens of this forum appreciate a contest where the point is to challenge yourself to grow as a writer? I would be willing to organize and even judge, if need be.

Opine here, please.

I was just curious, I've been pretty much lurking in other sub-forums but doesn't Grids take control on this forum? Would it be better to ask him? I'm not sure. I for one, approve of the idea.

I doubt he'll mind. I searched and there hasn't been inkling of a section-wide contest for about 5 years.

But hey, Grids, if you do mind, don't hesitate to give me a swift kick in the pants, eh? I don't want to two-step on anyone's toes.

Five years is a long time, it might do the Lit forum wonders having mini contests or prompts like they do in the Art Forum. What kind of contest were you planning of anyway Hana? :3

I was thinking of a very similar structure to the Art CY challenge. Voting on a theme, a couple of weeks to get entries in, then judging and new theme suggestions before the cycle continues.

However, if someone has another suggestion that would fit the this subforum's habits better, then I'm all ears. ^_^

Sounds like a great idea to me.

I like that very much, though we might need to have a maximum word limit in there as well. I have run Literature contests before in my group at dA so, it's usually how it is. Theme and maximum word limits? Being as it would be a short story theme contest, right? Well, if it was Halloween, we could have done a Halloween themed contest. :3 I'm all for horror and macabre settings.

I'm all in the horror genre as well as science fiction and mystery.

Fantasy, sci-fi, and gothic horror appeal most to me, although I'm willing to try anything.

I'd love to get working on my writing skills again! I've had a massive writers block for my own novel so this might be a great way to get rid of some ideas.

Count me in ladies and gents.

I can write in any genre, but some are definitively better than others.

Okay, I think there's plenty of support! So...Would you guys like to vote on the first theme, or may I be allowed the honor to choose something so we can kick off and open it up on Monday?

Agreed. Hana came up with this wonderful idea. It's fitting that the first theme be chosen by her :)

I would be interested as well... Short stories are a great way of breaking writer's blocks, and god knows how many of those I've been having lately XD
