I didn't quite think Jeff was killed in that regard. It was almost like an execution in a sacrificial style. And since when does HIM use a scythe to carry out his killings? Maybe it was symbolic because Mimi had grown close to Junior when he was there for his brief visit. Something is slightly bothering me now about Jeff's death. He was pretty quiet while HIM was giving his speech, so maybe he saw no reason to speak or maybe he was already dead, and HIM just wanted to add insult to injury by lopping off his head in addition.
