I am a new member with a few questions about art and being a new member. I'm familiar with this site, but I've only just made an account. I am planning on making my own webcomic.
First, let me introduce myself. Folks usually call me AC. I live over at deviantart most of the time, and I'm a college kid looking to become a professional comic artist. I'm planning on starting a webcomic to hopefully be published someday.

So here are my questions:
Are the comics at the top the only comics here, or are they just the featured few? What do I have to do to get my comic on this site and featured like the others?
If there's no way I can get my own comic up there, why not? How did these other folks manage to do it?

I didn't see any of this information in the Forum or in the FAQ. Did I just not look hard enough?
Thank you for helping me out, fellas. (And sorry if this post is in the wrong place. I tried my best.)

I'm fairly sure the ones at the top is the complete list. If it isn't, the only one's are old and not updated. Most of them aren't, anyways.

Basically, getting one of your comics up there is up to dave, the site's owner and administrator. The best way is to contact him. Dunno what the exact criterias are, but he has to approve of it for it to go on the site. Do note thought that A LOT of people want to get their comics on the site, so it isn't easy to do so. Not impossible, just not easy. I'm guessing you have to show you're committed, at least. This stuff ought to be in a FAQ somewhere, considering how often the question is raised, but this is as good as any a place to do so.

Also, welcome and stuff.

Some friendly advice, you might want to start doing guest comics first. Build a name for yourself. That way you have a portfolio to show, when applying for comic sites like this.

Also, welcome to the forums, we hope you'll enjoy your stay. And if you're the last one out, dont forget to turn off the lights.

Hi guys, anyone here use Adobe PS CS4?

I'm having trouble getting the rotate tool to work... The rotate tool where you can freely turn your page in angle without affecting the page. Arbitrary sucks for that. It needs OpenGL or something. I do not understand it...

yeah you need to enable OpenGL in your preferences, you'll need a pretty good videocard for that though.

Edit -> Preferences -> Performance
Check OpenGL

Thank YOU very much, Asmo. I really that need that rotate feature since I'm not working on a Cintiq at home (using a medium-sized Bamboo). My school has like 20 of those.

I wish for a Cinitq ;-: or some variant but cheaper...

oooooh god yes, I want a cintiq so badly... I'm happy with my current tablet, since it's so big. But being able to look down and draw (like on paper) seems so much better than looking up at a screen

Nuff said.

I'm rooting for the iPad (or some future product other than Apple) to delve more on that concept-- 4 years from now :3

Hello just thought I would say hi. I am pretty new here and just going around and getting to know the site so wanted to say hi. I do a comic on smackjeeves the link is in my banner sig. I will also start an art thread soon so check it out. I am shamelessly promoting myself since the rules said that was ok.

I have to ask what do any of you use for inking.
Is there any pen you prefer or recommend?
And any program other than photoshop that you use?

Illustrator!

No really, CS5 has these new stroke options that let you determine the thickness of the lines wherever you want. Require some work with the pen tool though

My pentel pocket brush has always been kind to me.
But if you're into less varied lines there's always microns.
Rapidographs are fun, but kind of expensive and take some time to get used to.
And while I haven't personally tried them, winsor & newton series 7 no. 2 brushes are used by everyone from Brian Lee O'Malley of Scott Pilgrim fame, to a variety of Marvel comic artists, to many webcomic artists. But that one brush could cost as much as 35 dollars.

Photoshop Help...

Up until now, I still can't understand the use of anti-aliasing... what does it exactly do to your work? Sample will be appreciated too!

it makes your work smoother... Though as far as I know, I've only seen it in the text options

Some differences are easy to spot (No AA in comparison to the others) but most are pretty similar

It's best seen in the curved letters

Thx Asmo :)

 it affects everything. Literally imagin the text he posted was instead colors in an image how it blends can make all the diffrence! For instance soft shadows/blending or hard shadows.

Stop bumping dead threads.
And post your comic if you want critique.
We'll tell you what you need to work on.
To post your comic use image tags like so. [img]insert%20image%20url[/img]
And read the forum rules before posting again.

Hello, people. I'm new to the art section of the forum (having been entirely in the RP section) and I thought it's about time I spread out and find some new friends.

I do have one request, though. I have some characters I'd like drawn for a project my brother is working on. If anyone would like to take a shot, please send me a PM.

If you want a request then post it in the request thread.
Also, if you want it done put whether or not you're going to pay for it and if so how much.
I hope you find your start in art better than in RP.
