The US does have enough surplus food to feed 24 million Koreans. We as a country could starve North Korea into concessions. dropping some invasive species into the country to keep them in a constant state of hunger would give us enough leverage to get things done. Of course if they choose crazy, not much we can do about that.

North Korea has been receiving a ton of aid over the last decades anyhow. It's not exactly something new.

This time they just want/need more of it. They'll likely get the aid, too.

Not really. Krieg was unable to attack anybody and was saved solely due to Sanji's moral code.

North Korea will get its aid(if it gets it, but I'm inclined to believe they will), because the West fears that if the situation becomes too unstable within North Korea, the regime will resort to attacks on South Korea to remain in power. Seul being attacked would result in an economic disaster on a global scale.

Also lul, comparing international politics to children's manga.

I think though if they attack south korea right now we have a significant strategic advantage which is diminished if we feed them. Every successful conquering military power keeps supply lines open and keeps food mobile to the fighting troops. Also why does everyone seam to think that north korea would win a fight with south korea? Without proper supplies sk fights a war of attrition and starves them out.

Last I heard, the problem isn't them winning. It's them hitting Seoul. It's not all that far from the DMZ. They don't even have to make it there, just their explosive ordinance. Besides, no one likes a war. Especially not the UN.

I'm about an hour out of Seoul and the people here are not too concerned about the North. I mean there is always nonsense going on and the raid sirens get tested once in awhile. There are more and more refugees coming in from the North every month. I just read a National Geographic article about it not too long ago. The South is always sending rice and food aid to the North. This is of course as much a humanitarian effort as it is propaganda move.
Plus if the North did do something foolish it would be a hefty war for them to deal with.

The only real ill will is towards Kim Jong Il and his family for destroying the people in the North. Many Koreans have been separated because of the war and the DMZ. I think it's every September where they allow families on both sides to meet for a few days. I'd have to check the papers though, but I am sure something like that does happen. It's a pretty big deal around here.

It's not that they'll win. It's that they have the capacity to cause complete devastation in South Korea, which isn't worth it to anyone but the most ardent nonconservative.

It's why North Korea has gotten food supply from the nations it basically is supposed to be mortal enemies with. They know that we think if they are starving then they might resort to something insane. Whether or not they'll do it no one knows but they know we think that and like to keep that aura of mystery around it.

They could resort to something insane, but there is a very good reason you don't capitulate to extortion and you don't capitulate to threats of this sort. And while it is kind of cold and heartless. For economic and political security we need North Korea to not be there.

I think we starve them and force them to take unfriendly terms. If they threaten us we taint the food supply we give them with a virus with a delayed action where we have vaccines. Maybe small pox and then vaccinate SK. Worked on the Indians. Or hell a low dose of lexepro, zoloft or some other antidepressent. Calm them the fuck down. On the flip side our government is too retarded to pull something like that off without being caught. Get the Israelis on that.
