It's WonFes, so most of the stuff is unpainted as a matter of course. If you just don't like figures, well, can't really say anything, other than it's silly to complain about things that purely exist to be collectable.

As for supporting series, well, for better or worse, DVD/BD sales + figures are basically the most powerful way to support a series. CD purchases help too, but not as much.

And when I say DVD/BD, I mean the exorbitantly priced Japanese releases, which are probably like 30~50 dollars+ per episode.

Nah, obviously it's subjective and that was the point you were making, and I get that, but when I viewed that page, "kitsch" was the first word to pop into my head. So since this is the Internet, I typed it out. Bring 100 people from around the world and show them those figurines and I'm pretty sure something along the lines of kitsch would be the universal consensus. And yes, yes I know they're niche products so they're not meant to have mainstream appeal, but what I meant to say is, that calling them kitschy is not outrageous.

You need to cross about 3000-3300 discs sold per volume(at average budget it's 3000, the so called Manabi Line) to start earning profit. So at this point, even though I was the one to mention supporting the series, I have to retract my point and say that for PSG it's pretty much pointless. Even if the merchandise sells well(and I fancy, it won't) they won't really make a decent profit. If they make a 2nd season, they'll make it in spite of it not being a moneymaker(ala Mitsudomoe).

Figures are sold as both kits and completed.

Kits are cheaper, since you save the assembly line labour that is used to paint most anime PVC.

There's a reason why figurines cost from 70 upwards to 100+ a pop. They're hand sculpted, cast PVC, that is assembled by hand and painted by hand, usually with airbrushes. It's all Chinese labour, but it's trained Chinese labour.

By buying a kit, all the producer needs to do is make the cast, produce he PVC, and then you do the rest yourself, just as most Gundam kits are unfinished--you are expected to finish the final details using really fine felts or paints specifically made for the purpose of painting Gundam model kits.

Finally, kits make it affordable for amateur (re: guys who can't afford a factory/assembly line) release figurines too, and Wonder Festival is one of the major figurine events where a large number of indie figurine sculpting/production circles go to hawk their limited run goods of which probably only around 20 to 50 exist.

The one's with the large heads and small bodies are the ones that struck me as the most kitschy of the bunch. They remind me of them plastic trolls.

Mathias when you play "the devils advocat", as you like to refer to it, you tend to write horrible analogies. Like really, really, really attrocious analogies, this is like the 3rd one that was written by you, that has me seriously scratching my head over how you could actually think this demonstrates a point.

So if this was intentional trolling, more power to you. But if it was meant to convince someone that those figurines shouldn't be dissed because the statue of David isn't painted either, then you fail rhetoric for life. Try comparing things that are somewhat, you know, analogous.

But yeah, as Glahardt mentioned those aren't complete ones anyway.

Meh, with Warhammer you get more figurines, with more elaborate designs, for less money. I personally would never buy one, but people who do, get something to paint and use in games. The PSG figurines cost more, look far worse(subjective), and their only use is to gather dust on the shelf.
