If your like me and have no Imagination go to the RP section and read some of the Character sheets there, if one has detail enough for you to imagine it you could probably draw it and give credit for the Idea of the character or thing to the person who made it up

I would say that the best way to learn to draw, is just picking up a pencil... and doing anything that comes up to your mind.

listen up boy, While drawing you have to LOVE the stuff you do! learning the anatomy is damn boring!, but its the most useful thing if you want to draw characters, you cant go on and draw something if you don't know how its really made, right? For the benningers like you, its better to star copying! a LOT! learning from different artists, steal the ability or the best of everyone of them and draw, go and watch, WATCH, WATCH, WATCH, COPY, COPY, COPY, DRAW, DRAW, DRAW...

Funny just at school today thats what i was doing in school today watching my friend draw. heres one of them his is the top one myn is everything else. probably dont have to tell you cause u can probably see the difference.

look at your own left hand and hold it in a certain position then with your right draw the out line of your left. Don't trace your left! Your left should be no where near the paper. Draw its out line by following its out line with your eyes and slowly sketching it with your right hand. (vise-versa if your a lefty.)

I'd say Zega summed it up pretty well. Though I tried to stay as original as possible, there was alot of times where the style I draw in is semi-similar to something I just watched or loved, and it showed in my art. God it was annoying to get my stuff away from the DBZ style phase. I still do it now sadly, but it's not as evident as it was back then. Mixing up character looks from designs you like or altering them also helps alot.

Actually 'tracing' can help you learn to steady your hand when drawing all sorts of lines. Also you need to practice a lot on shading, or learn to draw before shading. Don't try doing both. Learn to work on your style before going into adding details.

This isn't meant to be rude, but go from what this says:

Crappy drawing +plus badly done, overly shaded details = something that looks worse.
Decent drawing + None to minimal shaded details = something that looks better.

If you want to learn to draw, draw. But learn to draw how you want before learning to add details.

Also to me, that isn't really shading you did. That is more throwing a lot of Black on a drawing (while being sloppy about it). Shade with a Pencil, and smooth it out with Paper. Like tear off a piece of paper, and when you're done shading in what you need, rub it lightly over all shaded parts. It smooths it out.
