But that's not putting green houses on roofs, that's turning a skyscraper into a green house...

Never occurred to you one might fuse the two ideas?

Anyway, there are even better ways to make green cities.

I already knew of the skyscraper green houses, those weren't what you indicated you were talking about.

Fusing the ideas does not remove the problems I highlighted in regards to green roofs.

You chose the one engineering branch I couldn't give a flying fuck about.... well besides the farming one. I'll wait until we discuss popular topics like abortion, stem cell research, gay marriage, and NOT the BP oil spill.

I request that the next topic that we talk about is the BP oil spill.

Geoengineering is a pretty good idea. I think that solves that discussion.

Onto what you guys are requesting: ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTERS!

specifically! Oil Spills!

Doesn't have to be just the most recent one, could be the Exxon-Valdez in the 80s! But I expect some BP hate.

I think they are bad and corporate interest prevents governments from doing things about them. What do you think?

Transport large quantities of anything over large distances and you'll inevitably spill some of it. I suppose that would be one angle alternate fuels like hydrogen (being something that could be locally produced) could use against the industry.

Topic 7: The Tea Party, 10/16-10/23

This is more relevant for those in the US, but others are welcome to comment. Seems that the Tea Party has maintained some influence up to midterms, and it looks likely that the Republicans will pick up some seats in Congress. So, what do people think of the Tea Party? Is its influence good or bad; what might its long-term influence be; etc.

I don't pay much attention to them so I have no justification for my comments but I have a suspicion that the teaparty is a distraction and little more.

The teaparty seems like little more than a new name for neoconservatism.

Liars and cheats, the whole lot.
Simply put, I greatly dislike their methods, and most of what they say. Especially how they say it.

Damn bastards.

For the most part they're either latently racist or easily conned morons.

It makes me wonder where they were the 8 years all the stuff they hate, such as government spending, started.

But oh no Obama gets elected, that's the time for the movement to start. Not when we've already have a gross intrusion of privacy by the government, a massive increase in federal spending and deficit spending, and so on.

Weekly discussion 11/5-11/12: What if gravity were purple?

As BeeAre asked, what are the implications of gravity being purple?

Different shades could correspond with the different intensities of gravity

An interesting question. We would probably have a better understanding of our universe if gravity were to be any color. Maybe. Hmmmmm. I'll have to think about this one.

Purple holes perhaps.

Synesthesia with gravity would be cool though. You wouldn't get much variation on Earth though (unless it was extremely sensitive).

Everything would have a purple tint, I guess. Especially large planets. And the sun. Hm.
Like Willy Wonka's wardrobe, I guess.
