yeah if I knew what I was walking into I think I would have liked it more. I went expecting a semi serious horror film and I got a quasi horror, bestiality, incest porn. Kinda like Twilight.

I've gotten into a PM arguement with Dave over this and I think everyone in this thread needs to read what I had to say in my second message:

I don't know some of the features Dren has (like the goat thing) because I haven't seen the movie. I'm going to see either Iron Man 2 or The Last Air Bender anyway, and I probably won't even get Splice on DVD because I so rarely buy movies anymore.

I see your kind of bullshit sometimes and each time, I wonder why these people complaining about sexual content don't realize how hard they had to look to find it. Admittedly, you're taking it to a much lesser extreme, but it's the same principle as the Mass Effect scandal.

There's a reason Bob compared Splice to District 9: It takes the issues that it deals with seriously. Splice is about bio-engineering; District 9 was about political corruption (and racism, which is something I forgot to mention in the PM). Splice blames our emotional instability instead of Scientific advancement; District 9 fallowed a despicable asshole who gets what he deserves instead of a righteous do-gooder who does what he wants. They're both movies that shed the tired cliches of film in favor of "telling it how it is".

I don't see why you're arguing with Dave about it if you haven't seen the movie. From the sound of it the sexual content wasn't hard to find.

Hence the "much lesser extreme" part. As for why I'm defending a movie I haven't seen, I hold Bob Chipman to the standard of half a Roger Ebert because his reviews always include in-depth analysis of details that interest me. In Transformers 2, for instance, he used Devistator's wrecking balls as an example of Michael Bay's drunk-on-power attitude. Not that I need his word to avoid Boyformers, but that's a very good point. MovieBob has developed a reputation to me for, regardless of whether or not I agree, explaining exactly how a movie is.

So even though I haven't seen it, I'm confident that Dren's sexual element is a part of the movie's artistic statement regarding monsters.

Also, here's a proposition for you: Instead of me vs. Dave, let's make it me vs. all of you. Am I really so bad for taking a respected film critic's positive opinion on a movie that I neither have seen nor will see (because I'm going to see a better movie anyway), compared to the lot of you who take Dave's opinion to not see it? Remember: This is the guy who said Peter Jackson's King Kong was too unrealistic to be enjoyable because the vines shouldn't support the weight of a giant gorilla and some dinosaurs. He also said, inspite of being a Pixar fan, that anything below the R rating is "childish" and that the PG-13 rating is what ruined Scary Movie 3.

Ace sure puts up an argument... Not sure if it's a good or bad one though, but I'm not gonna judge.
But Dave... Twilight? Please, nothing is that horrid. I would know.

As for the poke at Manga readers readers, I actually wouldn't doubt it. But I'm more convinced that it was people that have worked on other horror monster movies. I've heard and seen plenty of such movies with similar scenes where monsters/aliens seduced men/women for sex, sustenance, and other things.

I just watched A-team myself. It was a good movie, but the dialogue was a bit off... It sort of left you trying to piece together who's who and what's what most of the way, but not in a "mystery" kind of way. It was more like a "we're here for action and crazy antics, so the story doesn't have to be as clear as day" puzzle. Just saying, you can say plenty about a movie, but it's all opinion. If I could, I wouldn't mind watching Splice. I've watched movies sort of similar anyways.

PG-13 is what ruined Scary Movie 3. But the below R being childish... I dunno that's a bit of a blanket statement I'd say.

Anyhow Splice was entertaining the whole way through and was turning into a pretty decent movie. Then towards the end it just got WEIRD and changed basically from the sex scene on. Dren literally didn't say anything the ENTIRE movie until she (but then HE) was raping the chick and said "Want INSIDE you" So it went from artistic and somewhat thought provoking to just a "really? This is happening now? Wow..."

So yeah it went from A movie to B movie in the last twenty minutes.

They easily could have ended the movie with the female scientist going crazy like her mom and make HER the monster at the end with the dude trying to protect Dren from her. But they just seemed to touch on that and quickly run away from the topic and instead skip to fucking Dren every way possible. And it's not like it was porn. You saw Dren goat boobs but it didn't show genitalia or penetration really. It was just uncalled for and took what could have been a great movie into a fucked up direction. Hell there was even a scene where the two human characters were fucking and Dren WATCHED.

But yeah it did what a movie needs to do it was entertaining... but it went in the wrong direction QUICK when it had so much potential.

Now that you acknowledge the parts without sex (most of it) I'm taking your opinion a lot more seriously.

And while I've brought it up, Charlie Sheen is a large part of what ruined Scary Movie 3. His success in contrast with his talent leads me to believe he's apart of the mafia.

There were a lot of times in this movie where my friend and I just turned to each other and were like "what the fuck, I cannot believe this is happening" either from the shear stupidity of a character (usually the girl) or creepyness of a situation
