It's ironic that the Sea of Tranquility was the site of the Apollo 11 landing, an event that was anything but tranquil (rocket motors, stress, angst, etc.) among a period in American History that was even less tranquil (IE: The Cold War).

while i might accept the notion of the landing, its taking place during the cold war is definitely not ironic.

expectation without intent is not irony: intent is in fact the dividing line between coincidence and irony.
