The Food Thread.

Postby Blood Lord » Thu Oct 08, 2009 4:24 pm

WELCOME TO THE FOOD THREAD!!!

I have noticed that many of our discussions take the route of talking about the tasty food, drinks, and treats that we have all consumed, so I have created this thread for that.

Food.

Now you might be familiar with the Food Thread in the Spam Section, however this one is much, much more different.

That is Fenix's Thread. This is mine. That is spam. This will NOT go off-topic.

So to put it simple, this will variate from our normal threads. There is a set of guidelines that this thread shall take. They are wide enough to ensure that discussion can flow and continue. However, it will not variate from the main topic, or I will report who ever did it, and those who continue to go off topic. I will not tolerate spamming, stupidity, annoyance. I demand that this thread will follow in a logical and on-topic fashion.

If you have nothing to say THEN DON'T FUCKING POST IN HERE.

Simple as that. Now here are the rules, and what you are allowed to talk about in here.

Rules:
1: Stick with the main idea. Note that I said main idea, there can be many smaller ideas that relate to the main idea.
2: Don't try to start a flame war.
3: The main rules.

Now what is this purpose, or what can we talk about since you are such a controlling pain in the ass bitch, Blood?

Well this is what you can talk about. (main Ideas)
As long as it is food related you can talk about it.

Pictures are encouraged.

Its a required taste I think. Lots of people don't like it, I tend to think of it as a 50/50 split whether someone will like Coconut or not.

Sunday Gravy

Image

Ingredients
• About ½ cup olive oil
• 3 lbs sweet or hot Italian sausage (or mixture), sliced into 3-inch pieces
• 2 lbs your favorite meatballs (about 24 formed meatballs*)
• 3 lbs country-style pork ribs,** preferably on the bone
• 2 lbs pork neck bones (though any beef or pork bones will do)
•2 medium Spanish onions, finely chopped
• 8 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 12-oz can tomato paste
• 5 28-oz cans whole peeled tomatoes (preferably San Marzano) with juices, crushed by hand until no whole tomatoes remain
• 3 bay leaves
• Hefty pinch sugar
• Salt to taste (about 2 to 3 tsp)

Instructions

Coat cooking surface of large heavy-bottomed stockpot (at least 12 qts — we're talking about a huge pot) with olive oil, place over medium-low heat, and brown all meats on all sides, working one at a time in this order: sausage, and remove; meatballs, and remove; ribs, and remove; then pork bones, leaving these in the pot. (Add more olive oil as needed.)

Add onions to pork bones and slowly brown, stirring occasionally, about 3 to 5 minutes. Add garlic and lightly brown, stirring occasionally, 3 to 5 minutes.

Add tomato paste and stir to coat onions and pork bones. Slowly cook until paste begins to thicken and turn deep reddish brown, about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes, bay leaves, and sugar. Stir well, making sure you get down to the bottom, and bring to a low boil.

Lower heat and simmer uncovered until sauce begins to thicken. After an hour, add ribs; two hours, add sausage; three hours, add meatballs. Continue to simmer until a layer of oil forms on top, about another hour. Season to taste with salt.

Ladle over your favorite pasta.

Yield: 16 cups sauce and meat for 8 to 10 people

"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

Beans, potato and sausage. A good, tasty, simple meal which can be adapted and added to in many numerous ways.

First off, that looks really nasty Quin.
We make maple bacon at the plant I work at and it smells so good. I haven't tried it though. Does anyone know if it tastes good or not?

Alright, sweet bacon, sounds good. I hope you don't literally kill people for it. If you get arrested you won't have near as much time to talk to us.

These are the fruit shaped cookies I've been talking about all day.

They flattened quite a bit. I was expecting them to stay 3D. The orange was originally a sphere.

Peas are fruits? I thought they were vegetables.

Whenever I make cookies, I make them in the shape of video game characters like Mario or Pac-Man.

Those look pretty good. What flavor are those anyways?
