Eh, I know the feeling, but I don't think it's as prevalent as you think. I mean, it's not like it's hard to see that it's done by you.

Besides, it'd be horrible if you got locked into a style anytime before you become a professional.

Personally, I really would like some variance in line weight, but it's fine otherwise.

Sh'yeah right. I actually need fans for any fan service. But here's a preview of my SDL splash duel to hold you over:

I'll release any specifics when I'm actually finished with the piece; I just wanted to showcase it as is for now. Also, crits would be appreciated, as I still have a few more days before the deadline.

Or maybe it's *more* prevalent than you realize, though maybe 'style' wasn't the correct terminology. Either way, something gets tweaked.

FINISHED! RAWR.

Image

GAH. I'm exhausted. CGing takes so damn long.

DA copypasta:

Eh, my shading still sucks. XD

I NEEDS ME A TABLET!

Anyhow...

Rather than getting in a physical showdown with Miss Illusion-of-Shape's character, Merry Lee, Rin opted for a more diplomatic 'duel,' seeing as the younger girl seemed to abhor fighting. The two hit the local inn and opted to play out a battle of the minds instead, via the classic Japanese game commonly known as Go. (It was originally gonna be chess, but Go's a *little* more appropriate considering...)

You can see by the girls' expressions who's winning here; the stones visible on the board don't even matter. (Besides, they're probably innacurate anyway. I'm not really sure how many stones fit on a real Go board.)

Also! In every duel submission I will be cameo(ing?) one of the literally thousands of other SDL duelers, and sure enough this one has just that... But I'm not going to say exactly *who* it is. (Not that it's that hard... Or subtle. :) ) You have to guess. <3

Everything was done in Photoshop.

Sorry, I'm not all to sure how to make wordy links in DA...

Not too shabby there. Just work at it and things will come out great in no time!

lol I'll tell you what I've always tell everyone who thinks they need a tablet.

You don't really need one to do CG at all. Hell sometime it's better and faster to color with a mouse. The only reason anyone would get a tablet to color with is if your planing on doing paintings where sensitivity is absolutely required. Otherwise you should learn to use the mouse to color everything else. The best tool for coloring with the mouse in photoshop is the magic wand tool and the pen tool. If used correctly you can produced a ton of great works with no tablet required! All you need is lots and lots of practice and to be able to learn what looks works and what doesn't. Hope you take my advice and save yourself a ton of money! :P

Anyways enough yammering and good luck on the duel with Merry Lee there lol

You're probably right about the tablet thing. I happened across a few nifty tutorials on mouse coloring and such on DA.

New art. A piece done for one of my DA friends, congratulating her on reaching 500+ deviations:

It's a big 'un.

Image
http://acktoo.deviantart.com/art/Elemmi ... e-97740530

It was supposed to be bigger, but my scanner went stupid, so... anyway.

DA stuff:

My first official piece of fan art!

And I'm still not pro with the pen tool...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Congrats on 500 deviations, Ghostead Nebula!

To be honest though, I needed a real excuse to draw Nebie, 'cuz for some unknown reason I've always wanted to do a piece of her. Maybe she's charismatic.

I'll make it all fancy-shmancy later, it's just that I'm submitting it now so it's a little more... time appropriate.

Line art here: http://acktoo.deviantart.com/art/Nebie- ... t-97742561

Honestly, I have no idea. At all. I'm just improving quickly.

I can say I'm not 100% satisfied with this one in particular, but rather than dwell on it, I'll work more diligently on the next one.

I finished coloring Domino, as seen here:

Image
http://acktoo.deviantart.com/art/Domino ... i-98044705

DA stuff:

Finished.

All done on PS, as usual, though I need to find a better style of shading.

Tried a new technique with her eyes that I really like, and I'll continue to use it on my non-human characters.

I'd give a character bio, but I'd rather keep that a secret for now.

Also, ten points to whoever guesses where the icon on her shirt is from.

Domino Hakumei (c) me.

Wow.

Been literal years since I checked in on your thread.

Your coloring has evolved incredibly. That's really sharp looking.

I envy people who are able to do the cel shading style as well as you. I always tend to overcomplicate things. Needless to say, Domino looks amazing. =]

Thanks, sfox.

Overcomplicated or not, the way you color is pretty darn awesome. I just prefer the simpler approach.

And he got it, alright. :D

So my DA page hit 1k views recently, and to celebrate the occasion I opened up for requests.

Naturally I only got one D:, but that's fine. The request came from Coos, and he wanted a piece on his character Joe Kusanagi, so I made up a quickie, the results of which can be seen here:

You opened requests, so it means you can do mine? :D
This is a description of my characters: http://patt-ytto.deviantart.com/art/Pat ... e-86742336
How about doing them (or not all of them, your choice) in your style?

NOT IN BREEZY WEATHER, NOT IN THE ARCTIC. HE IS JUST SO AWESOME.

But hah, it's all good.
Awesome job, thank you so much Acktoo. And congrats again.

That's not a jacket, it's a shirt with the word 'jacket' on it.

Your descriptions leave a lot to be interpreted. Either I can wing it with the descriptions at hand (which is prefectly fine by me), or if you prefer, you can toss some actual pictures of the characters my way.

Whatever works.

Well, the main thing is that the hairstyle descriptions need to be a bit more. Hair is the easiest way to differentiate between any two characters (or at least to me anyway) and as such it should probably be described in a bit more detail than what you have there now.

Jes' my opinion, tho.
