Hello to those of the snafu universe. Gigi here and…well…looking for a little help, if I may be so bold. I am an artist of sorts and have been kicking around ideas for a comic now for some months. I don’t really know what I’m doing and don’t even know who to through my ideas off of. So I figure the best place for online comic advice has to be the same place that has the best online comics, right? So ‘poof’ here I am…red faced and hoping not to get laughed at. That's pretty dang awesome. You art, from what I can tell, has that 'refined' feel to it that I can't quite explain, but always know when I see it. It basically means that while it may not be perfect, it is already at a level that requires no improvements.

Of course, I can't know if your comic making skills are up to snuff, for that is a skill in itself. Bring it on!

Alright so here is the long and short of my idea. It’s a spin off of Alice in wonderland with a bit of a dark twist (and yes I know American Mcgee already technically beat me to it). So far the plot is no more then a flimsy outline and the character sketches are in the beginning stages. If it’s alright I think I’ll try to post them as I finish the rough sketches. Please tell me what you think and know that they are just preliminaries at this point.

As to your suggestion Rockwell, I am trying to figure out how, but I’m a bit at a loss. I know how to ink and color digitally (thanks impart from studying bleedman’s work), but I don’t think a cell style coloring theme on this would be appropriate. Would like to do it by hand, but by lightbox and illustration supplies are all up in NY.

Bitching and wining aside, I would be forever grateful if someone, ANYONE could point me in the direction of a good illustration tutorial. Maybe if I could figure out how to clean the inked image once scanned I would really be in business.

Fancy art isn't the only thing that gets people to read a comic.

Good coloring so far

Not proud, you psycho, it is really good work. People with great art skills like yourself need to stop putting themselves down, just because you like what you have done wont make you try less. The colouring is awesome.

i like the first best it has plenty of detail but in order to acheive the pop effect I suggest adding blacks and or increasing the contrast inbetween colors.

A good illustration tutorial? I dunno. Cleaning up line art is mostly a matter of tedious use of the eraser and brush tool no matter what you do, me thinks. Try stalking the DA tutorial section if you haven't already.

Otherwise, your coloring is pretty sharp. The first one seems to be suffering from a light case of Awkward Lack of Lineart syndrome, but the second one looks pretty damn great


I have to agree with Rockwell here, all the really good people tend to disappear .
