Totem RP.

In this world, people are born paired with animalistic entities known as “totems.” At a person’s birth, the spirit congeals beside the newborn and the pair is forever bonded. As the person grows, so, too, does the totem. Many consider totems to be guardian spirits assigned at birth. To guard from what, is unknown. Others simply view them as pets or close friends. Many use them in battle, much to the dismay of their totems. Totems range in variance from commonplace animals to those only dreamed of. There are those who would abuse their sacred totem bonds and sever ties. Such vermin are often the vile of society, aiming to pillage and conquer. One particular society aims to conquer all the continents.

To clear things up: Totems are not physically attached to their person, yet there is an unseen “rope” which bonds them. Thus, a totem cannot stray too far from its person. Also, if a totem were to be harmed, the harmful effects would be felt by the person, but not vise-versa. Any harm befalling the person would not harm the totem. Totems may also use magic, but they must be fitted with a specific elemental rune which is inscribed on their palm or forehead through a sacred ritual that only those trained in the art may perform. Only one rune may be “equipped” at a time, preferably one matching the totem’s element. A rune may be removed through another sacred process performed by those trained to do so. When a totem bears a rune, the totem's person may conduct magic. A totem can bear a rune of any element, but they would be most proficient with one of their innate element. Totems are also extensions of a person’s personality. For instance, if a person is bashful, or refuses to express certain emotions, the totem would express the opposite emotions, conveying what the person was thinking. Totems can speak and often lend advice to their persons.

Major point: It is considered socially taboo and “gross” to be seen without a totem. It would be comparable to seeing a faceless man.

What would be your objective? For the most part, it’s sandbox. However, there is an organization bent on Viking-esque conquering. The land is reminiscent of the era in which Soul Calibur occurs, yet on a different planet. For ease of convenience, most players should opt to begin in the starting town of Refthelm.

Person’s Name: Koin (Koh-win) Rothschild.
Person’s Age: Seventeen.
Person's Gender: Male.

Person’s History: Raised in an orphanage after his mother died in childbirth. His father was not present to claim the child. He knows not his family name, only his father’s name: “Roth.” Thus, he adopted the namesake “Rothschild.” Since he was capable of rational thought, he had only pondered his father and his whereabouts. He readies himself to trek the land in search of Roth.

Personality Quirks: Extremely antisocial. Considers most conversations with people to be redundant and needless. Very impatient and hates to be held up. Prone to hitting his own totem, inadvertently harming himself.

Clothing Style: Wears a maroon scarf around his neck. A long-sleeved leather jacket, dyed light brown. A black undershirt. Brown cordoroys with a leather belt, attached to which is a brown satchel.

Totem’s Name: Yarn.
Totem’s “Race”: Cougar.
Totem's Gender: Male.
Totem’s Element: Earth.

Also, if your totem receives a rune, add it to their CS. If your character obtains a weapon through the course of the adventure, add it to their CS. This example CS is the official CS for my lead character. Here's my secondary character's CS.:

Name: Adily Veramont.
Age: Fourteen.
Gender: Female.

History: Sent to the same orphanage as Koin after her parents and house were accidentally burned to death by her totem, Fris. She has become the only close acquaintance to Koin, as he never associates with anybody. She had to force her way into his notice. Her totem gets into a lot of mischief, causing Adily nothing but grief.

Personality Quirks: Very bubbly. She has no trouble speaking to a stranger, and is always well-mannered, especially since most often she has to apologize for something Fris has done. She is constantly on Koin's case, scolding him for his behavior. She is a perfect foil to his character. Though she is chipper on the outside, a dark depression threatens to consume her inside.

Clothing Style: A dark blue cotton dress with a frill which extends from her right shoulder, across her torso to her left-side waist. She wears her hair long and down, with small barettes on the sides. She wears tight boots, which many classy ladies adorn.

Equipment Added: Dagger and leather holster.

Totem:
Name: Fris.
Race: Fox.
Gender: Male.
Element: Fire.

Note: Just because your character is male/female, does not mean they cannot have a totem of the opposite gender. I.e., Adily (who is female) has a male totem.

IMPORTANT EDITION! If your totem equips a rune of an element that is not it's innate, for instance a wind totem equipping a water rune, it will learn spells in twice the time. If it were a rune of the EXACT OPPOSITE element, i.e. a wind type equipping an earth rune, it would take three times as long to learn spells.

You could have a velociraptor if you wanted. It's set in Soul Calibur-esque era (whatever century that is).

Person’s Name: Axon Hinderwin
Person’s Age: 16
Person's Gender: Male.

Person’s History: Sent to the same orphanage as Koin and Adily. His parents were killed in a Viking raid when Axon was only but an infant which he luckily had escaped from by going into a nearby wood to search for wild mushrooms.

Personality Quirks: Axon is lazy to the point of being asleep while standing.
He gets bored very easily and has a tendency to wander off in conversation and will not walk for very far without stopping and sitting down. But other than that he is very optimistic and loves vireo very much as he lets vireo hang from his shoulder and kind of carries him as a back pack and will be often seen feeding him slices of apple, he will also eat a piece of apple with him as they both love apple.

Clothing Style: Axon wears a cream hooded jumper and pair of cream cotton trousers with a leather buckled belt as the trousers comes down to his feet, he wears a pair of cream Japanese sandals

No. He would be if he'd stuck around. But since he went nearly totally inactive, he doesn't qualify through being here long enough. And being inactive easily means a lack of experience for it.

Person’s Name: Lirosh Retroind
Person’s age: 16
Person’s Gender: Male
Person’s History: This boy grew with his family, a family that lived always in peace and harmony, he hated this. He despised the fact that his family were so good, it was like he wasn’t born in this family. When he was born, he was told that his totem took some time more than regular to bind with him. Most of the times he was held at distance from the other children and that made him to loath them. The time passed and he grew crueler, he decided that his family wasn’t worth for him to stay. He always thought that he was destined to be something great, and he wouldn’t let anyone go in his way. He left from his home and tried to get as far from them as he could go. At the time he left he was 15. At last he arrived at Refthelm it was his 16th birthday, although he had forgotten about it.
Personality Quirks: He is usually very arrogant and he will not agree to almost anything another person says, except if there is not something to disagree on. He thinks he is above all and he hates being ignored. The only ‘person’ he listens without, usually, any remarks, is his totem. Because he thinks that totems in general know about things around them better than humans. He is usually mean to people but never to totems, he respects them and he uses them only when they agree with him.
Clothing Style: He wears a black cloak with small white stars at the edges. He keeps the cloak closed with several silver buttons. On his cloak there is also a hood that he puts on, whenever he wants to leave, or escape. Beneath his cloak he wears a pale grey shirt and black trousers. His shirt sleeves are torn and so most of the times he hides them with his cloak, hoping to find better clothes soon. He wears black leather shoes with small spikes at the tips of the shoes.

Race: feathered Serpent
Gender: Female
Element: Air-Lightening (Is lightning an element?)

Person’s Name: Shana (Shay-na) White
Person’s Age: thirteen
Person's Gender: female.

Person’s History: a orphaned girl, who’s mother died shortly after she was born, due to heart failure- her father long dead- who has lived by stealing, and sheer dumb luck. Not much is known about her.

Personality Quirks: She will kill for chocolate. She also has ‘emo’ swings, typical for a teenage girl. Only this usually incurs violence. Thankfully, she is otherwise kind. though she is used to Fris fires, she is frightened greatly of fires of other causes due to what hapened in an foster home she and her brother lived in burning down and all but two people (herself and a male around her brothers age, who she was never told the identity of.) escaped.

Clothing Style: She has a make-shift cloak of sorts, which is torn up and dirty. Under it is a pair of black stretch-pants, and a dirty white t-shirt. She isn’t exactly the most leisured person in the world. She also has a saber strapped to her hip of the late, a suprisingly large blade in contrast to her.

spells: she has three spells- a lesser one that has no combat uses unless used to temorarily blind oppenents, and it's only other use is illuminating dark areas.

Kiria- a spell that can send up to five spheres of warping liquid and will freeze oppoenent solid on contact- it goes away shortly if not in a cold climate.

Tiria- easy to dodge, but effective- it sends spires of ice outwards, and when they make contact with something, it'll launch the target into the air, couling around and striking it. it's weaker if not in a cold climate.

Totem’s Name: Kokoro.
Totem’s “Race”: Wolf.
Totem's Gender: Male.
Totem’s Element: Ice.
Totem's Ruin: A generic ruin that allows it to form semi-compotent familiars made of its own element. they can do pre-set actions, and the more advanced ones have pre-set dailog.

Person’s Name: Drake Kaiser
Person’s Age: 17
Person's Gender: Male

Person’s History: Drake was orphaned on the eve of his 13th birthday. He’s one of the newest arrivals at the orphanage. Due to the immense size of his totem, even at such a young age, Drake chose to sleep outside, as the bond between him and his totem was more important to him than sleeping indoors. Luckily, there was a cave nearby which the two sought refuge in. Most of the members of the tribe saw him as a threat to their well being, and thus shunned him from their society. Many of the children were scared of him and thus stayed away from him. As time past, fear turned to hate.

Many attempts were made on his life, but his parent always stood up for them. That was until the eve of his birthday. A group looking for powerful totems came across the rumors of a giant totem on the outskirts of their village. Together with the villagers, the group plotted kidnapping the boy and his totem that night; however Drake’s parent got wind of their plans and prepared to defend their son with all they had. The last thing they told him was to stay in the cave and to take their family’s pendant. They gave him a memo telling him that if they didn’t survive the encounter, to seek out the orphanage in Refthelm. The last time he saw them, they were sealing off the entrance to the cave, using an earth spell. During his spat in the military, Drake tried to use the rune left to him by his parents, but he was quickly reduced to the army’s secret weapon. During a training exercise, Drake used an explosive spell to make his get away. He was presumed dead after the incident, as nothing but ashes were found at the site. He had the rune removed from his totem as he didn’t care for being used by anyone

Personality Quirks: Drake is a loner, and due to his childhood, he prefers nature and the company of his totem over civilization and other people. While not extremely anti-social, Drake keeps to himself most of the time, and gazes into the brilliance of the light rune his parents gave him before they were killed. When it comes to combat, Drakes sadistic nature comes out full force as he prefers to make his opponents suffer and cling to false hope before he completely obliterates them.

Appearance: Drake typically wears baggy and loose fitting clothing. He can usually be seen in black Hakama pants and an unbuttoned silk vest. Drake carries his dual swords strapped to his back with the their hilts poking over his shoulders. The usual leather straps have been substituted for cloth with a similar pattern as his vest. When not in battle, Drake removes his gauntlets, tying them by his side with a string. On the contrary, He leaves the grieves on full time, as walking on different terrains barefoot has it's consequences. He has brown eyes and short, spiky, black hair. His skin is slightly tanned, and he has a wild look in his eyes which complements him despite his usually tattered clothing. Drake has a chiseled physique which he keeps up rigorously. He's always training in one way of another be it mental, physical, or magical conditioning. He stands about 5' 11" and weights around 190.

Totem’s Element: Light

(Ideas behind the weapons are both light elemented weapons from capcom games, lol)

Upon learning that this rp is apparently based on a book series, I looked into the book. I seem to have unwittingly kept it as it was, while adding my own flair. However, with the upcoming film (The Golden Compass), I may have to revamp the rp. Time will tell.

Person’s Name: Allan 'Nocturne' Arithia
Person’s Age: 14
Person's Gender: Male
Person’s History: Son of two lovers in a travelling muscian troupe, Allan was given the nickname Nocturne by them as a child. He was orphaned at 6 after the troupe was ambushed, and shuffled from orphanage to orphanage due to his Totem's ability to warp space. Has recently been shuffled to the Refthelm Orphanage

Personality Quirks: Allan is unimaginably stealthy, even when not trying to be, he makes no noise when he walks and somehow, his voice only ever reaches the person he's talking to. He likes sending people on errands for things that don't exist. He also has a very good taste for music (he has an good voice as well, plus he can play a mean pipe organ).

Clothing Style: Allan always wears a black cloak with a large collar that reaches down to his ankles (giving him a very cool, stealthy look), and his black fedora (fedoras rock).

Totem’s “Race”: The illusive 'Hunted Snipe' (a large, majestic bird)
Totem's Gender: Female
Totem’s Element: Space (hopefully this will be counted)
