The thought had woken me up. It was Buttercup! It had been hours before everyone finally gave up looking for her and decided to wait until morning to continue the search. I concentrated hard and tried to listen to her again.
“There’s… Home… Ugh I hope I can make it!” It was her thoughts again!
I jumped out of bed and threw open my door and flew to the front door. When I opened it up, I saw Buttercup flying toward me wobbly.
“Bunny…” She muttered. Then she dropped from the sky.
“Oh my gosh!” I screamed as I flew to her rescue. With the sudden weight of her body in my arms, we both plummeted to the ground with a rough landing. “Ouch…” I rubbed the arm that I had landed on. “Buttercup?” I turned her motionless body over and gasped; she was losing blood rapidly from cuts in her lip, cheeks, arms, and all over the rest of her bruised body.
“Help!” I yelled from the front yard as I tried to carry her inside.
“What is it?” The Professor said sleepily with Bubbles closely following behind him and rubbing her eyes.
“It’s Buttercup!” This woke both of them up.
“Oh my goodness!” The Professor exclaimed. He rushed to me and grabbed Buttercup from my arms.
“Does she need to go to the hospital?” Bubbles asked worriedly.
“Now Bubbles, you know how I feel about doctors… I know I’m not a certified doctor, but I know just as much as those doctors from books, but without all their rudeness!” He rushed Buttercup down to the lab with Bubbles and I trying to keep up.
“Bunny! Grab another lab bed from the closet! Bubbles, go get some fresh water from the sink over there!”
After more than an hour of cleaning Buttercup’s cuts and wounds, she was laid down on the lab bed to rest.
“Professor…” Bubbles asked timidly.
“Can… Can Buttercup please come to our real bed instead of this one?”
He smiled lovingly. “No, Sweetheart. She needs her rest, and this is the quietest room in the house.” He patted her head in affection and she looked disappointed. “What’s wrong, Bubbles?”
“It’s just that… I’m not used to sleeping in my bed all alone… It’s… Scary!!!”
“What about your stuffed octopus? I’m sure he’s good company!”
“Ya… I guess…” She looked at the floor miserably.
“I’ll sleep with you, Bubbles!” I said.
Her face lit up happily. “Then we can check on Buttercup in the morning, and go get Blossom by dinnertime!!” She skipped off to bed, excited for the coming day. “Don’t take too long, Bunny!”
The Professor sighed. “Thanks, Bunny…” He looked beyond exhausted.
“No problem. And Professor, you don’t have to worry... We’ll save Blossom in no time!”
He didn’t look reassured.
“You must’ve had to deal with trouble like this before, right?”
He shook his head. “They’ve only ever been good when they’re together… Now that Blossom is gone, I’m scared that from Bubbles’ sweet attitude with Buttercup’s harshness, they may be captured along with Blossom, and if that happened, I don’t know what I would do with myself… I don’t know if I’d even have a reason to live anymore!” He sighed again.
“Professor, I promise we’ll get her back!”
He smiled at me. “I’m sure you will.” He patted my shoulder than trudged up the stairs to rest his weary eyes.
“Benny…” I turned to Buttercup in surprise. “Benny…” Why was she repeating this name over and over again in her thoughts?
“It’s ok, Buttercup… You’re safe now…”
“Benny…” The name kept running through her thoughts.
“And it’s Bunny, remember?” I pet her hair affectionately.
“Benny…” She thought again. I frowned but shrugged it off; she was probably just a little brain-missing from the pain medicine she was on… Or, at least I hoped…
