READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST!

Thu Jun 22, 2006 11:54 am

Rules:

PRIME]
God complex? I don't have a God complex. I am God.

1]
The literature forum is for the discussion of literature(fanfic, original(forumites), or original lit) and posting of literature(original or fanfic stories based on Snafu hosted media and other material).

2]
Flaming is not allowed. Constructive criticism is. If you do not want your works critiqued, then do not post them.

3]
All threads will begin Poster's Name, Title of Work, Rating, Fanfic or Orig. I.e.,
Cole: Haven Of The Dead: NC-17: Original work: Chapter 5 up.
(adding notice when you update work will be appreciated)
Addendum |:
For those with idiotically long names, using the diminutive most used or a contraction--i.e., ~Gaara's Little Angel~ as GLA--is preferrable for space reasons.
Addendum ][:
All chapters/works will go in one thread per person. Wholesale deletion is FUN.

4]
Only works up to R will be allowed. NC-17 level stories(gratuitous sex scenes and violence beyond required/disturbing) will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, though most will be most likely deleted immediately unless really, really well written. Please flag these stories by sending me a PM or IM with a link to said thread and subject: Flagged for content.
Addendum |:
I will lock all threads labeled NC-17 immediately. I'm tired of having to read a story I can't get into to decide if it's correct or not.

5]
Summaries will be ridiculed.
(I.e., posting a fifty word paragraph that summarizes an event and then calling it a story is just fucking asinine, you sodding wankers.)

6]
Images are only to be included in your works as illustrations, and should be relevant. If they are works you have created, and you wish them to be evaluated as anything but an illustration, they should be put in the art forum. If they are NOT works you have created, they must be credited. Images that you only wish to discuss or admire should be posted in the Post your art thread. Rewritten by Spike.

7]
Signature and avatar size will be enforced. When reading a story, signatures and avatars can distract greatly.

8]
Titus Andronicus is the best play ever. Anthony Hopkins is exquisite as the title character in Titus.

9]
You may use any format for a story--Script or an actually readable story. A well written, non-script story is preferable, though. A Script based story just gives you what people are saying. A well written normal expressive story conveys so much more.

10]
New rules and updates will be added when necessary or whenever I or Griddles feel the need to add one.

11]
Characters, whether original or 'borrowed' from established works, are free to be used as another person sees fit in their own stories as long as originator of character is credited. If you do not wish your characters used, then add an adendum to any story containing a character(specifying character's name/s) you do not wish used. Complaining about non-tagged characters will result in much ridicule and me NetSend Spamming you for one hour a day for one week.

12]
Avatars should be under 5KB. Animated around 20KB. 150 X 150px is the largest size allowed.
Signature images will be no larger than 468x60px and under 50KB.

13]
NO FUCKING POLLS!

Addendum from Kris -

THE REPORT BUTTON

If there is a BOT (it's usually obvious; they usually post ads for websites that are clearly of a spamming nature), hit the report button instead of replying to the thread.

If Skorri, Katz, CarrionMan, or anyone else on the auto ban list comes back into the forum, DO NOT REPLY to their posts. AT ALL. Simply hit the report button so a mod will deal with it.

The report button is located near the edit and quote buttons. Click the button next to the post/thread you want to report, and you will be taken to a page much like a PM or reply page. Type in a comment, and submit the report.

Reports are filed via thread, post, and profile. So you can also report individual people in the forum through the same method.

To report a person, click on the profile button below their avatar. Near the bottom of the page, under contact management, is a "Report User" link. Click it, type in a comment as before, and submit.

Question:

If we happen to have a thread of our works with multiple stories in it, what title should we post? The most recent update or what?

Thu Jun 22, 2006 12:27 pm

I would suggest breaking it down to multiple threads. If you prefer to keep it all in one thread, then update title with newest story's name.

I would prefer we go the fanfic/fictionpress way. If done that way, a person would have one thread and then would just link to the newest chapter/story they've uploaded to the other site, leaving the thread less cluttered and keeping the actual forum less hectic looking.

what about fanart of a character you made from other people would that go here too?

Thu Jun 22, 2006 12:47 pm

That would go in the art section. A link from here to there is fine.

I see you're back at last Cole. Good thing my fic is intact, but it's in script style. Since that isn't mentioned in the rules, I suppose it's best if my thread remains here. Not that it matters since it's on a bit of a hiatus.

Actually, I just got this idea for an original fic. I've told Griddles about it but...er...when you say ratings, do you pertain that to violence and sex only, or...other things? (I may send you a trailer of what I'm talking about via a PM)

Oh, and tell Griddles I said congradulations! w00t

Yayyyyy Cole! :)

Request for clarification (since it concerns me)!

Images, unless part of the story, are preferred to go into the art forum. Unless you're using it to show your like for a piece or to show your dislike.

Suggested rewrite:
"Images are only to be included in your works as illustrations, and should be relevant. If they are works you have created, and you wish them to be evaluated as anything but an illustration, they should be put in the art forum. If they are NOT works you have created, they must be credited. Images that you only wish to discuss or admire should be posted in the Post your art thread."

I look forward to seeing what you will do with this new space :)

Aye, lassie, much better. Editing now.

Thankee :)

I don't see the reasoning for having our work offsite on ff.net. Besides, the rules have become far too strict there. People have had fics deleted for being in script form, being deemed as a "list". I wonder if the admins there even read the story before hitting the delete button.

Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:06 pm

I have no interest in joining fanfiction.net or writing anything for them to see. I am not a fanfic writer, and I've only done one work, which I am not sure I will post here anyways.

Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:08 pm

I like the idea of having them off site for the simple fact it cuts down on database size, keeping this site up to speed. It doesn't have to be ff.net or fictionpress.com. Hell, right now the poll says on site.

Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:15 pm

Dave has said many times before: Database size is not an issue.

What if we post the story here can we still post the same story on Fanfiction.net? ^_^;

Fri Jun 23, 2006 12:33 am

I'd like to keep my writing here. Since when I doo post a story, it won't really be fan-fic.

In other news: Are we going to have writing contests?

Janana wrote:What if we post the story here can we still post the same story on Fanfiction.net? ^_^;

I'd think so.

It's your story. What you do with it is totally up to you.

Added after 53 minutes:

Also, I advocate the eradication of all threads--at least, all the threads that have been updated by the writer since the rules conception--that don't conform to the rules by a certain amount of time.

Fri Jun 23, 2006 2:31 am

I'm impressed Cole. Nice work already.

Yes.

Yes, most likely. Probably once a month or so for long stories and occasional contests for things like poems and shorter stories. Themes and the like will be required. Next time I see Dave online, I'll have a chat with him about an idea I've had regarding stories.

Fri Jun 23, 2006 11:01 pm

Excellant.

Nice
glad your a Mod here cole

Re: Forum Rules & Poll

Fri Jun 30, 2006 2:29 am

I say kept on the site mostly because I don't want to go all over (Net) creation just to post a story.

Sat Jul 01, 2006 7:25 am

I mostly like to post my fanfiction on here for the most as what Casmiricus said. I think this is a much better place for fanfiction here.

Sun Jul 09, 2006 2:45 am

Addendum added to rule 3.

Is this allowed: a example: Some people don't know Danny form the serie 'Danny Phantom' and I put a picture of him to make ppl understand him.

And I don't get it the rule #4...

Re: Forum Rules & Poll

I think you should just keep it on this site.

There are sites for just pictures, and sites for just written works. This site tolerates both so don't you think it's convenient for those interested in both? I think it makes sense....
