lower left leg needs to be longer? or is it just the line is a bit crocked?

the right arm is because of the fadedness right?

Ban powers please?

On the actual topic, I suggest using a program like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. Both have free trials available, just Google for it.

You should be able to find many tutorials by Google alone. There's also Wikipedia if need be. So yeah, search engines rock.

Looks good for a start, the lines are pretty clean. To get them cleaner, artists usually ink or trace their own work before scanning it. To colour, the most common program is Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

I'd like to see more of your art, so stick around and please read the rules stickied at the top of this forum. One of the rules says that if you're making an art thread, it should have your name in the title so that it's easier for you to find. I'll change it for you this time, so please put the rest of your art in this same thread!

What I see are sharp lines and partially decent detail, however as previously stated......your proportions are jacked. Good for first attempt however...

Any tips on how to color things better would be appreciated. When I try to fill in the color there seems to be an white outline.
Ignore the letters in the picture.

Secondly, sprite arts:

What program are you using? If you're just filling with color there is going to be some leftover white pixles around the outline and you might want to try with either a paintbrush tool or airbrush and just going around them. If you're using Photoshop you can work on your colors on a different layer (or several) and you souldn't get that white outline. Hope this helps. ^_^

I colored it with photoshop on a different layer. I suspect it may have to do with how to clean the lines properly.

Did you just cut the lines with the magic wand tool? That could have done it. A really quick way (and I mean really quick) to do this would be to use the photocopy filter and make the lines really black and then use the magic wand. I've found that this makes the lines a little too rough looking though. You could try and "ink" your lines with a mouse or a tablet too. I couldn't color in the lines even when I was in kindergarden so that's how I do mine, then you can just color underneath.

You could also try and erase the white outline, but this may take some time too.

Nice work so far, your sketches are pretty good. I'll point out a couple of things wrong with the sketches, k?

The shoulders are a little too broad, It's a female, so she needs to have smaller shoulders, and keep them curvy, like you have it. The arms are a little too skinny and the hands too small. The hands are dainty like a womans, but just make them a little larger.

The second one actually looks pretty good. You've got the right arm/body proportions and the outfit looks good. The facial expression reminds me of an orc because of the fangs, but I think that looks cool on him. Not really anything to point out on this one.

Awesomecakes job, none the less. :3 Keep at it, okay?

Revising it. I've got a problem with drawing arms and hands to the right proportion. Any good tips for me on the proportions of length and widths and positions for arms and hands?

Questions, how do you do cell shadings? I heard there's a computer graphic way with photoshop and a hand drawn way, can someone sorta explain it?
When I was shading a picture, I converted the scanned version into high contrast, and selected the lines and darkened them in, then inverted the selection to get rid of everything else before coloring in. I think I'm doing something wrong here, the lines turn out to be very choppy because of the pixels, and the lines get really really thick and blurry when I try to blend it. Can someone help?

Thanks.
I'll post the picture a bit later.

Photoshop=easier than hand drawn cel shading, trust me!!

From Wikipedia: "Basically, the process was a modification of a repro-photographic process; the artists' work were photographed on high-contrast "litho" film, and the image on the resulting negative was then transferred to a cel covered with a layer of light sensitive dye by making a "sandwich" of the negative and the cel and expose the negative to light. The layer of dye was sandwiched between the other two elements and exposed to the light through the transparent areas of the negative. Because it was actually divided into thinner layers of dye, each in a different color and sensitive to a specific wavelength of light, it was exposed to the relevant wavelengths one at the time. The light caused it to harden and fuse to the surface of the cel, and chemicals were then used to remove the unexposed portion, leaving the drawings in a variety of colors (photo emulsion). Small and delicate details were still inked by hand if needed. Spencer received a Technical award from the Motion Picture Academy for developing this process."

There ya go with cels. As for the lineart, I can't help you there XD I'm still learning it myself..
