It's pretty easy once you get your mind into the right setting. Then you have to worry about thinking up designs. *having trouble with characters, ATM* XP

I'm much happier with this one. I tried to do some shading, I'm not sure how well it went though

Wait does that mean it has to be pixel art in order to be sprite or can i make a large image and shrink it?

and is this considered a sprite? Found it long time ago

Yeah, that's a sprite. And no, you can't just shrink down an image. It has to be pixel art (as far as I know, anyway).

Added after 36 minutes:

So, is there a way to lock to pixels in PS? I can lock to the grid, which would help if the grid was the right size....but...

I believe the pencil tool basically keeps things pixelized in PhotoShop.

What a delicious coincidence. I made this yesterday for the purposes of experimentation:
Image
It may be made in flash, but it's definately a sprite. You could use him in a game if you felt so inclinded. You might want to clean up the edges though, at least it looks better than the nasty 'antialias outline' I'd get otherwise. Although quite a few engines have an option to smooth that out automatically.

So...yup...This is a sprite. I'm solid. I'm safe. I'm not gunna get disqualified because this is, despite what anyone may think...A sprite.

jZyre, yeah that's a sprite. I'll also accept Eggie even though it *should* be made of pixels to qualify. That's the idea of the challenge.

Bah!

Sprites take inordinate amount of time to make BECAUSE they're made of pixels. Cornercutting with logic such as "I can use it in a game" is a big fat load. If you guys are all videogame players, and can't grasp the concept of a character made of pixels, then I'm afraid you're lost to the world.

You anger the god of tantrums!

Hey you know those thousdands of dots you put in all your posts lately? (What are you.. PSI??) ONE DOT = 1 PIXEL. A sprite is a person or character that is created one pixel at a time.

That is seriously the last bit of help I am giving you because if you can't figure it out from that or the links I gave you, or all the other posts with examples and tutorials you are seriously a lost cause. Don't expect people to lead you by the hand all the time. Figure it out yourself.

Yeah um... make sure to follow the rules if you're so dern confident you're not gonna get DQ'ed.

Here's mine, for now. This is the first sprite I've ever made....not sure if I cheated or not.

Image

Guess who THAT is! That's right! It's our very own (little) mascot, Arth!

I took the image that was posted for the contest, shrank it down, and did line art over it, then got rid of the shrunk down pic, and colored it in. Is that legit? Or is that cheating?

And if it IS cheating, then it's in the spirit of my subject, I suppose lol

Added after 21 seconds:

Wow, that turned out REALLY dang small!

Fantastic Kench! Upon closer inspection, my final verdict is that you were not cheating, As the final product is unmistakeably pixel for pixel. In my opinion, it's tough as hell to make a sprite without drawing it out first, shrinking it down, and coloring it in at pixel size.

But the finished product is all that matters.

Yeah that's alright :D You definitely did the work of making it pixelized by hand, great job!

This was done in the same method as Kench - I took a picture, shrunk it down, then pixel-traced and colored it. The one on the right is supposed to be a scaled-up version, but the stupid program kept blurring it and I was too lazy to fix it.

Okay....this is my very very first attempt at sprites or even pixel art in general. I'm afraid its not very good, but everyone's gotta start somewhere, right?

I was half thinking of not even putting this up since it looked terrible compared to my other works. But a little voice in the back of my head said, "Moron!! You just spent two friggin' hours on this thing!!!!"

And so there it is...
