Spikecomix Tangle Contest! (Prizes!)

Postby Spike » Sat Jul 02, 2005 9:22 pm

'Bout time we had a real contest around here ;) This is one I'm running universally, so it's not Snafu-only. You can find it at my site, at DA, on my blog... pretty much everywhere. But, yeah, there are prizes!

The contest info will be here but the site is still kinda funky in the code so I'm pretty much copying that info below:

This was supposed to start yesterday, oops. XD But yeah. This will be ho'ed out pretty much everywhere so I apologize if you see it repeatedly.

The TANGLE Contest

(July - Sept 1 2005)

The Basics:
I am holding a second Contest!! This contest will run
for TWO MONTHS: From July 1st to Sept. 1st! I was pleased with the outcome of the first one, plus I really want to hold a celebration for the new domain, the new site, and a new title for my comic :) So this contest's theme is
TANGLE. How you use the theme is entirely up to you, it can be shown contextually, visually, literally, metaphorically, blatantly, subtly... it doesn't matter to me, as long as I can tell how and where it's incorporated (also, as long as I can tell it's about my chars)! For this contest you can draw ANY of my characters from ANY series!! (at last!) You can also submit in any medium, digital art, natural media, sculpey, written, music, flash... it doesn't matter, as long as it's possible for me to see it clearly enough (or experience it tangibly enough) to evaluate it.

The Rules:

>Submissions must be created entirely within the timeframe of the contest and must be submitted by September 1st at 11:59PM PST. Late submissions will NOT be accepted and there will be no exceptions or extensions on this deadline.

>Entries MUST feature at least one of my characters and may only feature my characters. No crossovers (your chars or other people's chars featured in the entry.)

>I will allow multiple entries per person, but you MUST SELECT by the closing date WHICH you want to be evaluated. (Quality not Quantity) If you do not notify me which entry you would like judged, your first submission will be the one evaluated.

>While creativity with these characters is allowed and encouraged, you must still portray the essence of the character. For example: You can't portray Harmony using huuuge psychic powers because she is handicapped in that department. You can't show Condor in a skimpy red dress unless you illustrate her covered in scars. etc etc. Creative use of the theme is definitely encouraged, but I must be able to identify the theme in your submission. I will still accept it if it needs to be pointed out to me, but if it's too abstract I may remove points.

>I will post all of the entries on my site and I reserve the right to post
them in my 'guest art' gallery. You may post it in your personal gallery,
however, as is standard, you must provide a link to my site and a note that the characters are (c)Spikecomix.

>Anyone can enter, regardless of skill level!

> Entries may be submitted by email(spikecomix@gmail.com), devnote, PM (on Snafu.com), or by post (request address), but if by post it MUST arrive in my hands before the deadline if that is the only way it can be judged. Please take care to do assure that it is sent early enough, your local post office should have guidelines on how long various methods of shipping take to Canada (Vancouver).

> This is kind of obvious.. but it must be YOUR WORK entered. No plagiarism, traces, or other kinds of theft. Stolen entries will be disqualified. Photomanips are permitted as long as the photographer is credited, it is preferred that the photos used are stock. Art manips are unacceptable as contest entries.

> Since this is not a Snafu-only art contest, it need not conform to Snafu Art-forum rules! **HOWEVER** it must conform with Snafu Art-forum rules if you want to post it in here. Obviously.

>Have fun!

Prizes!:
Each winner can select between either Art by me or a
Amazon.com gift certificates (online) as follows:

1st Place:
ONE FREE FULL(1 character, background, the works)
commission W/ORIGINAL ($80+ value commission + Free shipping for original!) =or= $35 Gift Certificate to Amazon.com!

2nd Place:
a FREE HALF(1 character, coloured, simple background)
commission W/ORIGINAL ($50+ value commission + Free shipping for original!) =or= $25 Gift Certificate to Amazon.com!

3rd Place:
a FREE Colour Portrait or Inked Full Body commission ($35+
value + Free shipping for original! (If available, portrait may be done
digitally)) =or= $10 Gift Certifican to Amazon.com!

These art prizes will be treated as a normal paying commission,
and will be put on my queue as normal. Equivalent gift certificates to other sites are negotiable, however it must work in roughly the same way as Amazon.com gift certificates and accept Paypal or Credit.

Judging Procedure:
This contest will be judged by ME. I may enlist the help of other people
who are not entered, but the final descision will be made by me. The criteria and approximate weights of criteria for judging are as follows:

Overall (30%)
Artistic Merit (20%)
Effort (20%)
Creativity (30%)
------------------
Total: (100%) of the score.

Overall: This takes into consideration the final product, its appeal
compared to all of the other entries. Overall also takes into consideration how "true to character" you were, either based on story, appearance, demeanor, emotion, and situation.

Artistic Merit: This involves skill in execution, be that drawing,
animation, sculpting... whatever the medium involves.

Effort: The time and self-challenge you put into the piece based on
your skill level is evaluated.

Creativity: This involves both creative use of the theme and overall
creativity in the creation/execution/presentation of your entry.

Character Information: As stated in the rules, only my characters
may be present for your entry to be accepted (no copyrighted characters or your original characters.), and at least one of my characters MUST be present. Information on the characters you can draw can be found on the profiles page. I will also accept the caricatures from Wasted Talent even though they are real people and not technically characters :P

Trueness to character is something that is taken into consideration in the
Overall score, so please take care to not portray the character in a way that is contradictory to them. Information on "no-nos" for that character can be found in the "notes" section of their profile. There are also various stories throughout the profiles and comics that can be used to give you a better feel for the character. If you feel you need more information or story about how that character would behave in a certain situation, please feel free to contact me either by email or PM.

If you feel you need more art reference for a particular character, email me and I'll do my best to get at least a character design sheet up for you.

Other Information/Questions: I will add to this if people ask me
questions. If you have a question, feel free to ask me!

Contact Me: The most efficient way to contact me with your entry is by Email. I can also be contacted by PM on
Snafu or by devnote at DA (user: spikecomix). As long as your submission conforms with Snafu rules, you're of course free to post your submission in this thread and it will count as submitted ^_^

PLEEEEEZE ENTERRRrrr!! Enter because this is a chance to draw my chars and you needed the excuse XD

This info is duplicated at the Site and I'll keep all the entries on there :D (blah blah still doesn't work in fucking Firefox I'm working on it etc.)

There's also a WT Photocontest going on.

Just for fun ^x^

I think the "KHAAAAaaaann!" Seinfeld joke was when George wanted a twix, the machine dangled it, and a mechanic bought it with another behind it, George sets up a sting operation but it goes wrong and yells out "TWWWWwwwiiiixxxxx!"

I may be wrong though....

No it was the episode where Susan died... as far as I can tell. Well they have an awesome shot at the end, down angle, camera spinning upwards... priceless.

Argh, I would do it but the fact I don't know your other characters gives me a bit of a disability.

Almost halfway through! Passin' up a chance at a free commission, guys? Right now if you were to enter, your chances to win would be 100%. Also, if I get a lot of entries, I'll sweeten the Amazon.com pot :)

Zero as yet!

You're right, Mischif, generally I get all my entries in the last two weeks and then people start begging me for extensions, but you're better off entering EARLY because I DO NOT give extensions!

Also, like I said, if you enter and lots of others enter, I'm raising the stakes!
