Dude, wtf?! Why did you have to be so mean to the guy? You could have atleast asked him if he traced it, instead of outright accusing! And you should have welcomed him! ASS!

I've been doing this a long time. I can spot when people have copied or traced something.

So what? There's a reference for everything you draw, at some point. Who cares if he was looking at an image and then drew what he saw? A lot of people draw that way, especially in the beginning. Get off your high horse.

dude it's cool. everyone started out copying at some point. it's how we learn! he's right, you improve by trying to do it without copying but copying is no where near as bad as tracing, at least not in my opinion. but who am i... lol! post #2!

What? That's totally not true, not everyone started out copying that's a flat out lie and people should be encouraged *not* to copy. There's a significant difference between looking at something to see how it looks (reference) and drawing the same thing in a completely different position and copying something to reproduce how it looks exactly. Also if you're talking about still life or something, it takes a lot more effort to build a representation of something in 2 dimensions that exists in 3 than putting one thing in 2d to another. If you don't believe me, try it sometime. This has nothing to do with you 2D, I would just like to vehemently counter that opinion.

And guys, don't accuse someone of something unless you get proof. If this was referenced *cough* I would appreciate you cite your references, 2D. Welcome to the forums.

Please start posting your references, hon.

The differences between http://img270.echo.cx/img270/235/gun9ek.jpg and http://img171.echo.cx/img171/6884/clamp3wf.jpg make it kind of obvious that you're using them.

references are piccies that you copy poses or stuff from or to get a rough idea of something. Like looking off another piece or art and trying to duplicate it.

If you used another picture heavily to come up with what you've drawn, you should reference it, ie, say "I used a picture of ________ by __________ as reference for this picture."
