Relick, I'm up to 59. I wanna get up to 70 at least by next week, after I finish my paper for Non-Western Art. Bah, I don't know if I'll have the energy.x_X

I'm working on a little mini-project, by the way. I basically trace drawings of characters, and mess with it a little so it ends up looking like one of my characters. This, hopefully, will help me improve my own style by mimicing the things that work in other styles that'll make up for things that don't work in mine. Something like that, yeah.:3



The left is Rin Otonashi, a character of mine. The right is a drawing I found somewhere online of Rin Tohsaka from Fate/Stay Night.:3

Copying the picture from reference would REALLY help you improve more than tracing. Tracing is about the least helpful thing you can do for your art, unless you're trying to improve your hand eye coordination for inking purposes...

Though I have to say, you really are very adherent in your lines and you maintain the life of the original picture almost perfectly! So good job on that.

Actually, it's more like like a "to each their own" sort of philosophy when it comes to tracing. I'm actually starting to get the hang of eyes a little more now that I've been tracing them.:3

The trick is to actually try and practice how to handle the medium you're using in order to get the same effects that better artists manage to do naturally. If you don't like your own style so much and want to improve it, then you end up looking at other pieces to try and mimic theirs sometimes, right? For example, a lot of people do this with various Disney-related styles. This takes the whole idea of reference pictures a step further. You're getting something different out of it by tracing it, because then you start to learn a little bit about how to obtain the life the image has.

I'm actually working on another tracing, and it wasn't until I started tracing it that I realized that the style of the piece I'm tracing is really similar to a friend of mine, and then I thought "so THAT's how she does the eyes...".o_o You learn odd things like that, too.XD

You're absolutely right. It's good that you're learning from your tracings, and it shows in how you draw your faces and hair apart from the originals.

A lot of people just kind of fart out a lot of mindless tracings to kill time, and never ever get around to actually learning how to draw. They actually become contesting when you ask them about them drawing original stuff. "THAT'S BORING LOL" is their usual reply.

I got the idea from trying to eyeball a certain piece to copy how that person drew eyes, but I had such a hard time with it that I just said "Screw it!" and started tracing it.x_X It really helps for especially difficult styles to master.

Oh man, his hair looks way better this way than it did in your old drawings. ~_~ No offense, I just cringed whenever I saw Lynxie's hair.
I'm assuming that's Lynxie.
That particular Rin image makes me laugh because she looks like she stole Sakura's chest. XD
It's a good idea to try the tracing technique.
